This is why a poster pointed out your statements don't add up.

I suggest you go over to the Debt Free Wannabe board on this site and post the truth so people can help you sort out your situation. As they are all have either in debt or been there they won't judge you as long as you tell the truth.

I've been telling the truth. What reason do I have to post anything but the truth.
  • How have you mamged to get another place, didn't they ask for a reference from previous Landlord/lady? and if you have bad credit, how did you pass the checks?

  • Our in laws have just finished putting in a static caravan, which was going to be used for relatives to visit, and a bit of extra storage, but have now let us live in there until further notice.
  • Dont know too much about LL law etc, but write down everything she has said/done perhaps speak to your local CAB you can sue landlords for harassment.

Last few posters have been a bit harsh imo.

It is very kind of your in-laws to help you through a difficult patch Is there no way your in-laws would help you settle some of your rent arrears? You could pay them back gradually I guess you will not need the housing benifit if you have free accomodation with your relatives
  • While it is kind of them to help you, I hope they told you that it isn't acceptable not to pay your rent.

  • we are expected to pay them rent for the use of the caravan. Yes it is very kind of them, but they too do not have any money spare to be able to help with paying of the landlady. I want to make it very very clear, I do not plan on fleecing my landlady out of the rent she is due..which seems to be the opinion of some who have offered their opinion.
  • I actually feel very angry, as a similar situation happened to friends of ours who own a flat, and had housing benefit couples who decided not to pay the full rent, then waited until formal eviction. This couple are lovely, and did not deserve this, they were totally unpredjudiced, hence agreed to housing benefit.

But...this kind of behaviour has made them change their minds, and other people's too. Pay what you owe.

    Don't you get Child benefit?
    Child Tax Credit?
Some sort of JSA or ESA?

Does your huband sign on or get ESA or incapacity?

This figure of £50 as your income isn't consistent with current benefit rates.

Also, as you asked the council to pay the HB direct, you must have known how much the HB was and whether there was a shortfall in the rent.

As for 24 hours notice, a LL doesn't need to give notice to knock on a door.
They need to give notice for access to the property if the tenant does not agree to access without notice.

I personally find it galling when tenants expect the landlord to follow all the tenacy rules to the letter but feel its OK to flout the agreement by not paying the agreed rent.

quote "She also refused to have the hedges trimmed because we were in arrears with her"

OP ,I hope you can see this from LL's prospective.
