thanks chatmum. was going to check out oldstyle for the answer.

we don't use the fire, it cost too much and as it only heats the living room, so not worth it!

anyway it was leaking gas and british gas switched it off and said it was out of date due to changes in standards, etc. so that is not a problem.

was reading though that you need to leave room around the balloon so that it doesn't get damp. do you have that problem with the bag? does it allow some air to circulate so the chimney doesn't get damp?

Hi A, we have not had a prob with damp and I know my parents always did this too for yrs I think because you don't get a totally air tight seal with the newspapers you don t seem to get a problem you can still feel the slightest breeze if you put your hand near/up the chimney but it solves a big part of the problem. You could even fill the bag with printed coupon cutoff waste lol or tesco price drop leaflets minus the coupons of course :)

went to waitys and the SA was ok, nice enough to DS until I pulled out coupons and vouchers from waitys after a complaint. then pulled out free wrapping paper and sweets, realised i hadn't got them. went back around and got them, went to different till. SA was ok, not the friendliest am very surprised at waity, they normally have them trained well. And when coupons started scanning for free she scrutinised them and didn't even say thank you!

humph! do they not realise the money is not coming out of their pockets!

There is a programme on tonight at 9pm on bbcone about supermarkets, and how the price cuts they put on items may not be as good as we think.
