GM Group b2b and 3 mobile contract

  • Thanks for all the replies...

It seems that 3 have had a number of complaints against these guys, and they have canceled the contract themselves, that GM set up.

My brother has also written a letter to GM stating the facts etc, and saying that he is canceling the contract due to the way in which he was tricked, and that if they do want to take it any further, then he will be needing a transcript of the recording under the DPA blah blah...

Sent this off and he got a call from them the other day. They have listened to the recording and it was all above board..:rotfl:Yeah right.. They cant cancel it..

Thing is, 3 have already canceled it, so could be interesting. I have said to him to:

    1. refuse to communicate with GM by phone anymore. Tell them he has written a letter with all he has to say, and expects a reply in writing if they want to take it any further.

    2. write to 3 and confirm that they have canceled the contract with GM off their own backs, and this was not something that my brother instructed.

    3. confirm with 3 that they will take this up with GM, and that 3 are now going to assist him in any "battles" he may have with GM.

Basically, if he can get 3 to agree that 3 canceled the contract due to miss-selling, he has a much better chance of GM dropping it.

I just cant believe this is still going on. They told him he could cancel the contract for 80 quid... then changed their minds.. then called him offering an upgrade.. All this inside 3 weeks..

Its so obvious they are tricking people into a contract, then not letting them out of it. .. Oh yeah.. I sent my brother the link to watchdog as well, so we have a complaint into them. Might be worth a few more doing that if it carries on..

    Cheers
  • My experince with GM connect, just like they do to other guys, I got the call and the asian man made me believe he is from 3, I cut off the line but he called back, he also said that been the last day for me to upgrade is the reason he called me and he is only try to help so my line will not be cut off. I said I want Nokia 6500 and deal not more than £20, first he said Nokia 6500 was so bad with software that as of 17th July 2008, 172 pieces has been returned by customers back to 3, but he will give me the latest phone, in fact the phone is just coming out to market on 21st july, the phone turn out to be Sonyericsson 770i, I send it back and call 3 to change the phone and I was told for the first time the deal is not from 3 but from GM connect, I called 22nd of July, that is the 4th day to the upgrade, to cancel it they refused, I send the phone back, they send it to me and I send it back again, they send it again then I refused to collect it from post, one of them called me he siad he has listen to the tape and I was informed and they will not cancel it, I requested for copy he said it is not possible. I have switched the phone off, I have not use out of the minutes from the upgrade, the phone has been returned to thier office. I am waiting when they get to my Bank and find out I have cancelled the direct debit. I am so happy to see that I am not the bad person and that they have done this to so many people, and still wondering WHY, WHY and WHY 3 has not cancell doing buisness with this dubious company. Guys pls I still need your advise. Thanks
  • If you are within the 7 days, that GM state on their website, you can send the phone back, unused etc. You have 7 days, under the distance selling regulations, to which they have to comply.

Also, a copy of the transcript of your phone conversation, if it contained any personal information about you, has to be made available to you under the Data Protection Act.

They will try and trick you via phone calls, or scare you into giving in. You must stand firm and know what your rights are.

My brother has logged a complaint on the BBC watchdog site:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tv_and_radio/watchdog/contact_mobile_phones.shtml

It might be worth getting a few to do this, as they are quite clearly not selling themselves correctly.

We have had no reply from them yet, gave them 14 days to reply over a week ago now and still nothing. Will leave it for about 16 days, then give notice that due to their non-communication we are canceling the contract, which 3 have already done, and will return the phone once they give us a return reference. My brother has not used the card or phone since he realised the con, sorry mistake, so its not in any use whatsoever.

Any other help or advice / experience greatly received.

    Cheers
  • Hello,

I am new to this forum, and just wanted to say what a fantastic source of information it is. Having read the posts about GM Group, and it phone sales activities, I just wanted to say something. I am a student presently reading economics, and like most students wanted to make a little extra money by doing some part time work. I answered an advertisment in the local newspaper for telesales agents that has been posted by GM Group Ltd.

On arriving for my interview, along with about 25 other people, we were given a short personal interview and then told a bit out who we would be working for and their policy about honesty when dealing with potential customers.

It was STRESSED big time that we should never lie and that all calls were recorded. Our line manager said that if anyone was cought "bending the truth" they would be dismissed Immediatly and escorted from the building.

We were given a script that had to be read and we could not say things like pretending we were calling from another company or stuff like that.

All the time calls are being made a supervisor was walking round and listening to our conversations and the whole operation was closely monitored.

I admit that in my first week three people did get sacked on the spot for saying things to customers that were not in the script, and everyone knew that if you did you would be out and no messing.

Sure there is a lot of pressure to perform, but I expected that but my experience of the company was that they were very serious about not misleading customers. We were even told that if we did and if the customer compained we could face criminal charges for Fraud.

I am sure that in any organisation there are a few bad apples, but my experience with GM Group was that they played the game by the rules.

    Regards

  • I've also experienced calls from these people, a guy named Gregg called. I lead them on by telling them the mobile model and could hear him tapping away before he worked out that I was a T-Mobile customer. I then told him that my contract ends next month (which incidentally it does!) and he offered me an 'upgrade'. Fortunately, I'd looked these guys up from previous missed calls so I played him along and wasted his time before telling him I'd already taken out another contract with T-Mobile last month with which I'd received a PS3; if he could match that or offer me a 42" plasma tv, I'd be interested. Needless to say, he thanked me for my time and rang off!
When they call, don't take up their offer, string them along and waste their time telling them your contract ends in the next month .... then after a while, tell them you've already taken out a contract with the same provider the previous month!

Must be the Scorpio in me ....

Hardly surprising, even three themselves call the K-5-3-0-i the latest handset.

What a bunch of liers! I would take these people to court and get them done.
  • I've been lied to and conned by this company and so has a friend of mine.

He was offered a Skype phone that never arrived after months of phone calls and I was told that my old 3g number could be transferred to my new account. This has never happened after I was explicitly told it would.

My lawyer has mentioned that she has found quite a few instances of complaints about the dishonesty of this company.

If there is anyone else out there that feels that they've been conned by Gm connect the way I have, please write into this forum. I'm feeling a class action and a mention in BBC's watchdog is in the offing.
  • I am an electrician in Blackburn (where GM Connect is located). I did work worth £3k for them about 6 months ago, and got paid the day after. HOWEVER, just finished another peice of work for them worth £3k for them. They spent the next week dodging me.

I got a 'phone call on Monday 2nd Feb, to say that 'unexpectedly' a resale client had failed to pay them, and they therefore had no money to pay me. They told me they 'might' be able to give me something this Friday (6th Feb). I am not hopeful.

They operate out of the a top floor office in a converted canal-side factory unit in Blackburn (Granada TV have offices there). They appear to have around 30 to 40 people crammed into there. (I put in the power supplies and CAT-5 IT cables for the individual desks)

Curiously, when I was in there last week, one of the managers (known to me) had posted a '3-strikes rule' poster on the wall.

Basically, the staff have to produce one customer from each 4-hours period of cold-calling. If they don't, its one-strike. 3 strikes and its 'bye-bye'. The pressure on these young kids is very much on.

  • I'm both relieved and annoyed to discover that other people have had problems with GM Connect! This is a great forum.

I received a cold call from a similarly fast, somewhat disjointedly talking guy back in August 2008. I was in the bank at the time and my mind was on other things which probably helped him to distract my suspicions. This is the first time I have ever been so absurdly duped into buying something over the phone and it certainly won't happen again.

He asked me about my current contract and handset, whether I liked to talk more or text more and, eventually, managed to slow down for me to tell him that I was on 3 pay as you go at the time. I don't have my finger on the pulse when it comes to the best deals for phone contracts but he put forward a very good pitch and, in truth, the contract he proposed would (and does) save me a lot of money...
However, not content with that, he then managed to make a complete sucker out of me by offering a second contract - to pass on to a friend - with the reward of "£150 cashback" (I know, I know...I curse the day I ever answered that call!!). But this also seemed very appealing to me and I knew a friend who needed a new phone. The phones arrived very soon and I gave the second one to my friend with the intention of setting up his bank details asap. You must understand, I would never have taken a second contract if I'd known we wouldn't be able to change the direct debit details for four months! This I said to the disturbingly vague and thoroughly unhelpful lady who answered my calls to GM Connect Customer Services (If you ring them now, you will be put on hold for about 10 minutes and then cut off) countless times and all she would do was refer me to 3 customer services.

I was also told when I rang GM's customer services about a week after my contract had been started that I would only be able to claim my "£150 cashback" when I sent them my paid 6th month bill - another hugely irritating thing they neglected to mention in the original phone call. Ringing them after 6 months, they told me "Yes, if you send us your bill, we will refund you £75 now and £75 after your 9th month's bill." I sent my 6 month bill to them two weeks ago and have heard nothing from them and now can't reach them.

When I think about this, I am utterly fuming!!! Partly, because I realise what a sucker they made of me but mostly because it is a sly, sneaky, underhand way to operate and I can not stress enough how EVERYONE MUST AVOID GM CONNECT LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Does anybody have any advice? I would really like to bring these people down.

Though I'm fairly certain I will never receive it, I was so looking forward to that "£150 cashback", whatever it was...;)

Heard that GM Group laid off their staff after 3 suspended their "Dealer Code".

    Anyone got news on this???
