Really sorry to hear about your relative dying. Definitely time to take a break and do whatever feels right. Ebay will still be there at the weekend.Mortgage, draw down Sept 2014: £222,000

2013 officially sucks at the moment.
On top of everything else, our car now needs roughly £300 worth of work done to it which we just don't have. We have £300 saved for the car/house pot, but the car insurance and MOT is due in Feb, and the house insurance in March, so that'll be swallowed by all that. There's no other option than to put it on a credit card.
I also put nearly £50 worth of petrol on the credit card today as I'm scared about the state of the bank balance being overdrawn this early on in the month.
On the (small) plus side, I have listed two more items locally/on facebook selling page which should hopefully bring in £20 - £25.
I also need to list the ebay stuff tonight, no excuses.
Another bag of stuff and a box has been taken to the charity shop this morning, so that's a little bit more out of the way.0 -
Forgot to mention, I returned something today which will put around £11 back in the bank account.
I've also just sold a book on Amazon which will net around £5 once postage etc. is taken out. Every little helps I guess!0 -
I listed the eBay items on Friday but interest is not great at the moment so not looking very positive.
Had to use the cc again yesterday, the expenses just keep in coming and money just keeps disappearing like water this month. We had to pick up a few bits of shopping yesterday, but a £10 gift card helped to reduce the cost.
Not feeling very positive today at all. :0(0 -
Hi DFSD
Sorry to read you are having a tough time.
I know what you mean about money just disappearing with never ending bills. I thought I would have some spare cash this month so I could pay my work subscriptions but the spare cash and more has gone already.
I hope things pick up on Ebay.Mortgage, draw down Sept 2014: £222,000

Thanks Chocs, sorry to hear your cash is flowing too easily too! It's rubbish isn't it.
I was shocked when hubby cleared out most of his cds/dvds/boxsets yesterday, all to get rid of. I started to music magpie them but they were offering ridiculous prices (22p for a boxset!), so we've decided to take a punt at selling them locally/via ebay/on Amazon. One of the box sets has already sold for £20 which is more than MM offered for the lot!
He is also selling another item locally which may have already netted us £30, so that will all help.
Ebay is doing a little better, but not amazingly so. I guess no-one has money to spare at the moment.
Fingers crossed sales pick up before the auctions end.0 -
Hey, sorry to hear you're having a rubbish start to the year. I know I don't post very often but I do keep reading
Do you use FB for selling? dvd's on my local one sell well for £1 each, boxsets for more obv. I have a huge pile that hubby has parted with to donate to the cause, and they may not fly out of the house but they do sell.0 -
January is definately a long month for the finances...i think it is tough for everyone. Only today at work me and a colleague were counting how long it is until payday..three weeks tomorrow . Thanks for the encouragement guys x
We've sold a few more of the DVDs/Cds etc locally, advertised them on FB but received no interest so may try and list them again this weekend.
My ebay items are ending tonight and are running at around £50 so far, hopefully it will go up a bit more before they end, but that's me just being greedy!
I received the payout for the old jewellery I sent off and, as I expected, much of it was not gold/silver anyway. I suspected this anyway, but thought it worth a try rather than throwing it away. I received less than £15 for it all which is better than nothing.
I sold some baby items locally for £15 this past week and have another £5 from a FB sale coming on Saturday. There should be around £20 expected from Amazon too, so we do have little bits of money coming in in dribs and drabs. Unfortunately it's going out in leaps and bounds though!
I've been really careful not to spend any money other than essentials this past week. We've been grocery shopping a couple of times, but have made lists and manage to stick to them 99% of the time. We are meal planning too which is always a big help.
This morning I finished the great de-clutter. I've managed to find quite a few more bits to be sold and also have another bag for charity which I'll drop off at the weekend. more importantly, I actually have space in drawers and cupboards and have got rid of so much stuff we don't need! Once the ebay parcels have all been wrapped (tonight's job), then I can reclaim my dining room/sewing table and start making stuff for my website again. I have purchased some more fabrics and supplies (using the CC unfortunately) and have the plans in place, now I just need to 'do' and sell!0 -
I made a grand total of £80.99 on eBay which I'm really happy about. It'll certainly help reduce the overdraft a little. I should also be paid around £26 from an in law this weekend in payment for something I picked up for them whilst out shopping. Combined, that's £100 back in the bank. :0)
Tomorrow I shall aim to list the other few items I found for eBay and photograph the rest that I hope to sell locally.
I need to put some stuff back into storage in the loft and retrieve a couple of baby bits whilst I'm up there which I shall be selling.
It's Ds's birthday soon and he really doesn't need any toys or clothes. At 2, he will still be too young to understand the meaning of the day anyway, so DH and are buying a new lampshade, curtain and some wall stickers/decoration for his room and making it a bit more 'little boy's room' and a bit less 'baby nursery'. He loves cars and trucks and diggers etc so we're subtly going with that! If we have any spare cash, we'll put a bit extra into his ISA too. I can't wait to see his face when he sees his new 'big boy room'!
We're also going to take him to a local farm park (courtesy of tesco vouchers), so he should enjoy :0)0
