For iPhone 4s buying the phone outright from Apple or CPW (£499+) is the best deal indeed. Then use it with a PAYG sim like giffgaff (£10 p.m.) or (if your daughter is trustworthy) a sim-only contract like chitter-chatter or talkmobile (£6-10 depending on number of minutes).

I guess it is the same for iPhone 4, but you can check this, say, at moneysupermarket.
    Don't know about 3gs.

Re insurance see Martin's article Mobile Phone Insurance
and the discussion thread Mobile Phone Insurance

I think you have to declare that the phone is used by 14 y.o. and mobile insurance companies will charge you correspondingly (i.e. through the nose)

You're unlikely to get a deal as iPhones are in such high demand.

You could try calling and blagging it but I'd be suprised if you got anything out of them, especially on the latest model (4s).

As for insurance, does your contents insurance cover accidental damage/personal belongings? I'd advise against a spcific policy for the phone as they're grossly over priced!
  • I wanted an i phone, but way to expensive for me. I got a sony walkman live android phone which is 23 pound a month on 3. unlimited texts, 500 mins and all you can eat data. I do have an i pod and I reckon this phone is far better than my i pod. I highly recommend it!!!!!!

My wife just got an 4s on vodafone for £36 a month through mobiles.co.uk (found through moenysupermarket) for a 24 month contract. 600min, unlimited text and 500MB data. Phone included free. Total cost of £864 for 24 months. £739 for the giffgaff option over 24 moths.

That O2 option certainly looks expensive!

But it still proves that it's chesper to buy the phone outright.

i have i phone 3gs on t mobile 15.32 a month = 50 minutes, 500mb and 50 texts ( you can have one unlimited booster and i have unlimited texts ) . i dont have insurance as that was nearly as much a month as the contract !!! i figured if worst comes to teh worst ill put the sim back in a cheap payg, till the contract is over.
