Any problems with living near a pub?

I used to. The only problem was the really loud karaoke. But that was every Friday and Saturday night, until after midnight, it was so annoying never being able to sleep before midnight on those days.
It was quite a nice area though, you might get more problems with fights shouting etc in a rough area.0 -
Most definitely throngs of drunk smokers standing outside late at night in the Summer.
Quite; this time of year with the doors kept shut and most people nipping outside for a quick smoke it will be a lot quieter than during the summer months when dozens could be packed into a pub garden.
It also depends on whether it's a sensible "trouser" pub with little or no music and a largely older clientele, or a 'fun pub' designed for chavs - who at the very least may be driving their souped-up chaviots back and forth until the early hours.0 -
one of the worst things for us is when the recycling lorries come at 6am to empty their incredibly large and clattering bins. We can cope with the late night noise because it's not so bad, but the lorries, coupled with the cleaner who constantly forgets the alarm code (normally on a Tuesday morning of all days!) is a little bit too much sometimes.0

We used to live opposite a pub.
When we moved in it was a quiet village pub. Most of the customers were over 60 and left quietly at 11pm.
Then it changed hands. Karaoke, open longer hours and a whole different type of customer.
The music was louder, the pub livelier, and customers more drunk.
The local youths found it great to hang out outside as they could listen to the music, that's when they weren't screaming and swearing at one another.
Our front door step became a public urinal and our car was damaged on a number of occasions by the drunks who had been kicked out.
The final straw was a brick through the window from a disgruntled drunk.
Never again would I live near a pub or even on a route to a pub!0 -
I bought a house next door to a pub and had to move within a year. Although it closed officially at 2300 they had loads of lock ins and the music volume (whether live or taped) was awful.
I'd run a mile from a pub that closed at 0200 and had karaoke nights!0 -

Following on from this, bear in mind that during the summer, the pub windows are likely to be open more than at this time of year; so if you go down to see how noisy the karaoke is, imagine how it will carry with windows open rather than shut.0 -
I used to rent a house opposite a pub. On Saturday nights their music reverberated through the house. When I moved in initially this wasn't a problem as I was usually out anyhow, but when I had a job with long hours and lots of travelling it was the last thing I needed.
The other problem was parking. People would drive there and abandon their cars after a few drinks too many meaning there were a few occasions where we couldn't get out of the driveway until they moved them late the following day.
Upside - the landlord and his family kept an eye on the area and in a way that made the street feel safer at night as there were people about.
I wouldn't live near a pub again though.0 -
Lower price can give good yields in certain circumstances but I would never buy one to live in.0

I used to live next to a pub and tbh it was one of the motivating factors in me moving out - they'd have events such as weddings, drum and bass nights (!) and even an African drumming night (on a Sunday night....7 hours of drumming over a loud PA system). The pub was quite studenty and in a not so great area though, we didn't hear that much noise from smokers or anything otherwise though even though my room was closest to the beer garden. Must admit the noise when the empty the bottle banks is a bit of a shocker too, usually quite early in the morning, so be aware if you work nights or shifts etc. I hate to say it but it shut down for a few months before changing hands and I was praying they wouldn't find another buyer and it would be converted into flats or something, but alas.
By all means, check it out and maybe speak to people who live near it already and see what they have to say - they've got no reason to lie to you. But if it was me I'd think long and hard and make sure it was reflected in the price before I moved really near a pub again. There is a pub a few miles away from us in a residential area and they have to close all the doors and windows and turn the volume down at about 11pm, obviously prompted by complaints by residents.0
