    Yes I do...

Then I'd back up now onto DVD anyway, no matter what you end up doing. With only 10GB you could probably easily fit the entire hard disc (if that was your wish) onto just two single layer dvds.

I am a little reluctant to download more programmes.

Spacemonger is a tiny program, only a couple of megabytes. If all else fails, you could easily install it onto a USB Pendrive, it should easily fit on there.

You could invest in an External Harddrive, I have an 80GB one I use for music, films, documents, etc. Only cost about £40. You can get more space cheaper with an internal drive, if you don't mind tinkering.

As well as the number of System Restore points, you can reduce the size of the Recycle Bin - it can be 12% or 20% of the drive by default, and if you empty it fairly often this is just wasted space. Right click on the icon , select Properties and move the slider to 2 or 4%.

There are ways to delete redundant parts of Windows as well, like backup files for undoing Service Pack and other updates (which will never be done), and some bits of driver cache, but I don't know enough about this myself yet to recommend it if nobody else does.

I find Treesize a useful program for finding what is using all the disk space.
