  • Hi everyone :)

Sorry, I know this is a pretty old thread, but I joined from the link in the indexed thread on slow cookers.......hope that's ok!

I am looking to get my OH a slowcooker for xmas (who am I to stop his enthusiasm to cook ;) ), and I was wondering on the best one to get?

We have a rotisserie (sp?!) and a large cast iron "le creuset" stove to oven pot already, but we want something that we can use for big stews and cheap cuts while we're at work.

I've heard the MR ones are good, is that right? Would the 6l one be ridiculous for two people? We've got a second freezer, and we'd like to be able to take leftovers into work, so although its just the two of us (well us and a very hungry lab ;) ), we were thinking this would be ok?

Also, is it right that it wouldn't actually be 6l capacity inside, as it's only 2/3 of the actual size inside or something?

I've seen the MR going for a good price on amazon, doing the basket dance at the minute......so any feedback / advice is much appreciated! :)

I'm a bit worried by the reviews on the larger 6l one on amazon.......a lot of them seem to be centred around this one being higher powered (350W compared to 150W for the 3.5l one)......what has your experience been? We won't be in mostly when its being used, so I don't want to burn the house down using one!! :p

    IF YOU'RE SKINT......
Do I need it? Can I afford it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?

    IF YOU'RE NOT SKINT......
Will I use it? Is it worth it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?
  • I have the MR 3.5 one and it's very good. I cook for myself and freeze the leftovers, so I think the larger one for two people who have freezer space and who will use the leftovers sounds fine, as the 3.5 one may be too small for all that. So, no, not ridiculous at all, sounds sensible!

And yes, you're only supposed to fill it so far, not totally full.

I would have thought the extra power wouldn't be enough to cause a problem as it's still low, and an efficient trip switch should kick in and switch the electrics off if there was a problem. For me the best part is having a wonderful hot meal cooking away whilst I'm at work. The slow cooker is on today, and all I need to to do is bung some precooked rice in the microwave, cook some spinach and sweetcorn, and I'll have a lovely hot meal ready within 10 minutes of arriving home. Fabulous!
Life is not a dress rehearsal.
  • Asda have a slow cooker in their 'basic' range for approx £9.50 at the moment.

Used it loads and it's fab - think it's 1.5L - has 3 settings, low, high and auto - doesn't come with any recipes though (but noticed lots on this site for free!)

    Happy cooking!

i found this same free gift at the back of my cupboard - years after receiving it and instructions now gone. Anyone know how i use this thing!

Its got what looks like a griddle pan which is shallow, and a deeper pan where the food goes, plus base. Im not sure if they are both used to cook food in. Any help gratefully received.

I have the Multicooker REDMOND RMC-M4502. It's a large 5 l. I like that it has 34 programs and you can choose whatever you like (rice, meat, potatoes, soup and so on).
