Really appreciate some help please
My daughter is in floods off tears at the moment due to her lap top just shutting down, she has worked tiredlessy on her lap top for two days on essays due to be handed in on friday for her exams at uni.
There seems to be a coincidence with her ipod usb cable which she had connected to the lap top, maybe not the cause but she says that she had removed the conection when the lap top conked out.
We have tried booting up using F8 key and choosing safe mode but it just goes back to the same screen with choices, so she tried the repair choice too but just gets a message that it cannot be repaired and to send a report.
I dont know if its an issue with over heating ( she says its not hot) or the usb problem or something else but we just cannot get it to boot, it does seem to be trying to but nothing.
Iam not with her she is in Glasgow i was trying to help her over the phone & i feel so sorry for her as she is gutted and will not be able to start again .
Does anybody have any idea on how or if we can sort this so that her work can be saved ?
Thanks any help much appreciated

If none of the F8 options work
A usb hard disk caddy attached to another machine would probably enable her to get her data back, they cost £3-4 quid.
and then user acer erecovery to wipe and reinstall windows.
pc's always seem to fail just before an assignment deadline... always backup to multiple disks/discs.
if it's hot, lift it up off the desk, and let it cool before switching on!!

Closed....thank you but what is that ? sorry i dont know what a usb hard disc caddy ?
yes dont worry i think she will have learned a lesson on the back up now0 -
As a despeate last measure, remove the hard dive and stick the drive in a cheap hard-drive caddy to retrieve her documents. Getting the hard drive out isn't too difficult - there's bound to be a geek at Uni somewhere. It looks very similar to my Acer 5542 and it's easy enough to do.
I hope someone comes along with an easier solution soon.
I'll leave it someone else to remind her to back up to a usb stick etc in future...
A caddy is a 'box' that you fit a hard drive into, and connect via usb to another PC to read the documents.0 -
so we purchase this then conect her pc to her friends say , and it will transfer the data ?0

Question 1 is which version of Windows has she got, and does she get the option on F8 to "use last good/known configuration" ? Also what laptop has she got make and model. Someone will know what to try first.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Another common mistake is saving the master to a usb stick, which then gets lost or corrupted.
put 2.5" sata caddy into amazon (assuming it's quite new, older machines had pata disks)!!
