I had the same laptop. It used to go into thermal shutdown running minecraft. As the OP did, I bit the bullet and tore it down.
Main problem was that the fan had created a felt pad over the fins of the CPU heat sink, and there was plently of other general crud in there. Re-assembled and it had lower fan noise and ran much more cool, and is now a perfectly functional second laptop.

Compressed air/hoover would not have shifted it. It was a half cm thick pad of felt betwixt fan and cooling fins, on the non-exhaust side.

As Weird Nev said, the fins were solid at the side of the fan, the fan itself was very dusty, so cleaned that up too, and the grills which go underneath still had some dust blocked in them, so cleaned them out too.

Just on desktop atm, so will report temps. later, and maybe a hijack this, just do complete the clean up, though I have run CCleaner and disabled loads of start options. Dg

No it wasn't so bad, but did have a mini panic with the keyboard ribbon cable, thinking it had come apart. Dell pictures not really large enough for my liking.

    Right
The laptop has been on for about 4 hours, onto a tray, with just the Desktop copying files from it, yes I did get the network working too, and it reads

    Core 0 Min 40C Max 48C
    Core 1 Min 33C Max 42C

Seems Core 0 is still Amber, but certainly lower.

max of 48 deg after that long on is fine, no problem at all :) It may be amber on that certain reader, but that's not that hot, well within normal range..you'll probably find it hit 48 whilst during a more intensive useage period. Bet the fan's not spinning as much or for so long either :D
