I have a CitizenCard as I cannot get a drivers license or provisional. Most bars and clubs I go to do not accept it. I have to take my passport with me. Either drivers license or passport if your best bet.0

Can I ask why you don't accept a CitizenCard, considering that it is government approved and also involves identity checking?
I obviously cannot speak for NKLK, but for the bar at my work they don't accept them because they are simply too easy to forge. At least that is their line and they are sticking to it.0 -
Another person for just taking out the driving license. It's easier and less hassle than getting a CitizenCard just to be turned away at the door. My best friend had one (couldn't get a DL for health reasons), and the amount of times it got turned down was unbelievable, even in shops and restaurants. I personally wouldn't take out my Passport for fear of losing and the cost of a replacement!0

Although they say that things are different in Scotland, that's not my experience. My work don't accept them (too easy to forge) and I know of a lot of pubs and clubs that will only take a passport or a full (NOT a provisional) driving licence. There are also some pubs that won't even serve someone a soft drink without ID, even if they are with someone who does have ID!0 -

I have had that on numerous occasions when I'm being driver for the night.0 -

It was news to me. Never heard of that before at all. They said it was part of their licence agreement, so maybe they had a more stringent one than elsewhere. The places I usually frequent don't have that rule.0 -
Hello,
http://www.citizencard.com/ is apparently accepted by all UK license holders. Although from my experience it only tends to be Passports and driving licenses that are accepted 100% of the time.
Hope this helps0 -
I use my passport as ID, as I don't like using my driving license as ID, since that has my address on it, and I don't see why I should show the bouncer where I live.0
