  • my mum could fill this thread just from cooking programmes.

'reduce it down' being one of her favourites. I think she's waiting for somebody to reduce it up

"Reverse back"'s a good one as well.

"Reverse back"'s a good one as well.

Ex always says that and I always reply "well you aren't going to reverse forward are you?"
Ex MIL calls a hearse a hurst, salad is salid and a bus a buzz.
Another annoying one for me is when people add "me" to everything eg "I like that me" or "I'm going home me" grrrrrrrrr.

my ex-sister-in-law who misses out the words "to the" in various sentences so "Do you want to go to the shops?" turns into "Do you want to go shops?". Her children also are frequently asked if they want to go toilet or go bed.

I could wax lyrical too. I've noticed some parts of the country where "to be" is removed from a sentence altogether. "He needs told".

Tennant gets my goat. Tennant is Dr Who and the lager maker. Tenant rents your property.

Pacific... I want that one in pacific. What? You want that one in an ocean?!

That's my bug bear. My MIL always used that but l've noticed more and more people doing it too.

Another one is the access on car insurance, instead of excess.

    I'm getting old. :rotfl:

    Happy moneysaving all.

haha, knew it had to be around that area from 'buzz'... Got fut go fut buzz
  • I saw on a forum the other day "I could care less what you said" huh? don't you mean I couldn't care less? I have seen that one on so many US based forums, again, strikes me as lazy.

It's an American thing. It's totally accepted usage over there. Which also bugs me because it makes absolutely NO SENSE that way around. If you could care less, then you care. The mid boggles.

The other one they do is 'I feel badly [for you]'. Someone needs to tell them the difference between an adjective and an adverb.
  • Facebook status updated I have seen from my (London based) cousins who I've now hidden from my feed:

    - I'm so board someone plz amuse me
    - I'm off down the pub if any of youse wanna join
    - I brought alot of new stuff down (insert town here) today lolz

The killer for me though, was my friend had a status where her phone had autocorrected a word when she'd typed it. Although the autocorrected word made no sense in the context of the sentence, you could make out what she was trying to say. Her mum, a teacher, is also on facebook and commented "You're spelling is awful - worse than some of the kid's at school". Red rag to a bull. I corrected her. Oops - thankfully my friend saw the funny side!
Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP
(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)

My ex nan-in-law (from Sheffield) was always pronouncing things incorrectly such as: pizza = pee zza, duvet = do vet etc etc. She was forever saying DD1 was weary of her...err I think you mean wary! Ex FIL and ex also pronounced Renault as Renult, used to make me cringe in public cos everyone knows the French don't pronunce the 'lt' bit...don't they??

A friend's OH says, "I'm gonna get me a shower" when he comes in from work. I sometimes feel like asking him why he thinks just before tea is a good time to pop out to B&Q for bathroom accessories.

His MIL apparently embarrassed them all once by ordering a ham bagut in a cafe :rotfl:
