depends on the dog - my staffie would wear anything the kids dressed her up in! painted toenails? no problem! sunglasses - for a while, until she managed to 'lose' them behind the sofa! earrings necklaces etc - I couldnt take them off her - only the kids could! a silly paper hat? yes, the kids sellotaped one on her one year - but, I drew the line at that - the poor girl looked embarrassed!
my springer would tolerate wearing tinsel round her neck - and that was it! anything else would be torn off and shredded!

  • Sorry if I seem to have hit a nerve - unfortunately forums only report the text, not the tongue in cheek, joking sentiment behind, that actual speech conveys. Your original post had a question mark at the end which suggested responses - if you didn't want a response from someone who didn't share your penchant for dressing up dogs, & thats dressing up dogs large or small, then why ask the question? - I love all dogs, just prefer medium to large breeds, that hasn't stopped me knitting little jackets for the puppies and thin dogs at the rescue centre - now you've hit a nerve with me, people who think the other person is wrong just because they don't agree with your own opinion - don't worry won't be coming back on this thread. Jeez. Should have realised not a genuine question.

    Ok, bye then!

I have no problem with the fact that you don't like dressing dogs up, I don't usually hence the thread.

What I seriously don't like is you referring to my much loved pets as 'accessories not dogs' just because of their size. Not going to apologise for that.

They cost less to feed, they're easier to bath, you can carry them if they have an injury or illness that means they can't walk and you need to get them to the vet.

Of course, as a small dog owner I would never randomly start making disparaging remarks about big dogs based on their size, not sure why its ok the other way around...

(Sorry, but you've stumbled onto one of my pet hates!)

I don't think virgin_moneysaver meant anything derogatory by that post, and everyone is entitled to their opinion :)

Generally, I don't dislike smaller dogs as such, I just prefer larger dogs...plus I would be terrified incase I stepped on the poor thing - I am forever stumbling over Bully and he's an EBT :p

They said small dogs were accessories not dogs, and I'm not really sure why big or small even comes into it, you can dress up any size of dog as some of the pictures on here prove! :rotfl:

I love dogs of all sizes, I'm sure I'll have bigger dogs at some point in my life, I'd love a Komondor!

Some dogs are perfectly happy being dressed up. We spent hours as children dressing my aunt's dog up, putting hats on him, scarves (don't worry no risk of strangulation - we never level him alone dressed up!), tinsel, blankets, if he ever got bored he just walked away, he was quite capable of letting you know when he wanted to do something else. He was always happiest when he was centre of attention (he'd do things like lie down in the middle of the floor in everyone's way, or went and stepped on people's feet, if he wasn't getting enough attention), so he loved being dressed up as it meant everyone looked at him and talked to him etc.
  • I have two wheatens, and one of them LOVES any attention so enjoys being dressed up as he gets even more. He is just a total show off.

At xmas he does go for walks with reindeer antlers on, and throws a strop if you attempt to take them off. The way he prances about in them is unbelievable. So we put him in Shrek ears another time and he liked that too.
