Alternative to waiting for iPhone 4S with Tesco

Is there any downside to buying the phone from Apple and getting a Giff-gaff SIM (apart from the larger one off cost)? I've been waiting for the Tesco deal to come through, but I've only 3 weeks left on my current contract, I have my PAC code which I don't want to lose, so really need to look elsewhere now to get myself a new deal - given there appears to be a waiting list for most places, I need to get a jolly on.
I noticed on another thread people talking about the Voice Mobile contract - is this for Police personnel only or can Civvies get one?0 -
I tried haggling with o2 using the Tesco option as a comparison, unfortunately, they wouldn't come down enough for my liking, so I asked for my pac code.
Ordered my iphone from Apple on Sunday.. delivery estimate is between Dec 6th-13th.. from what I've been reading, it should be here by the 8th.
Decided to stick with o2 (cheap broadband) and went simplicity.. tariff that was £16.50 reduced to £11.50 for 12 months
Total cost of £637, slightly worse than Tesco.. but with a bit less hassle.. and cheaper monthly outgoing.
Although there's cashback using my OH's employee benefits!
Which would bring it down to £615:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
The problem is i want the 32gb iphone 4s.
I don't really want to spend £599 in one go! Tesco do not have any stock, whilst 3 are rubbish.
Really do not know what to do!0 -

Well your choices are:
Wait for Tesco..
Go to three..
Go to O2
Go to Vodafone
Buy the phone
In either case.. your going to have to wait for the phone.. I ordered mine on Saturday night and I've got an expected delivery of the 6th-13th of December! Although Apple dispatch on a tuesday/Thursday so I'm hoping for it sooner:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -

What deal and network would you recommend?0 -
What deal and network would you recommend?
Well the major deciding factors are things like:
1. Network coverage
2. Budget
3. length of contract you would like
Without knowing these factors I would suggest:
buy the phone outright and get a sim only tariff. Seems best value..
If you can't do that, then Tesco seem to be the cheapest?:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
On the subject of Tesco SIM only, does anyone know if you need to pass a credit check with signing up for a 3-month SIM? I know you do for a full-on 18/24 month contract but what about something shorter?
Cheers

Just like you,I was in two minds but finally did exactly that, paid £599 for the 32GB obviously unlocked from Apple, sold my old phone to recoup a bit of it then switched to GiffGaff for 400 mns, unlimited texts and internet for £15/mth on 1 month rolling contract and will be saving £378 over 18 months;I can only advise, just do your own analysis and see what`s best for you also you`ll notice the small fortune you could save in the process.
GiffGaff just like Tesco also use the O2 network therefore very reliable, been using it for just over 4 weeks now and have nothing bad to say about it personally.0 -
I was due an upgrade with o2 but instead of upgrading my phone I kept my iphone 4 and went onto a 12 month simplicity contract
600 mins + 300 mins o2-o2 calls + unlimited texts and 100 mbs daily allowance all for £13.50
I am £24 per month btter off with an extra 300 mins. I am delighted!:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0
