Alternative to waiting for iPhone 4S with Tesco

They have a micro-SIM only deal for £12.50 a month for 500 mins, 5000 texts and 1GB of data. Is listed as a special offer so no idea how long it will last.

I've ordered the deal and then order an iPhone 4S straight from Apple.

12x £12.50 = £150
+
£499.00

= £649 for phone and 12 months.

If you wait until Tesco has stock then it would cost £655 for 12 months plus phone on £35 a month tariff.

The SIM only deal is 250 mins less than the closest 4S tariff but I think I'll cope with the 8 hours call time.

Might be a daft question, this special offer is for a 3 month contract. What happens after 3 months? Does the cost go up? Can you stay on the same tariff? Anyone know the answers please. Does seem like a good alternative.
  • I am thinking about iPhone 4S as well, I guess that tesco combinantion - 12months x 35 and some 235pounds is quite good deal, they have them available immediately (at least they had when I was in tesco few weeks ago)

Hi I checked this out before I bought it.

To me it seems a bit pointless saying its only a 3 month contract but at the end of the 3 months you choose to keep the contract rolling over. You only have to let Tesco know if you want to stop the contract (just as you do with other contracts e.g. my current £25 per month with O2 is up for renewal next week but would just keep going until I cancel or upgrade).

I got confirmation of this from one the reps on the Tesco chat thing that pops up if you hang about on the Tesco Mobile site long enough. Also took a screen shot of the conversation for future reference.

Tesco only had iPhone 4S in stock for the first few days from the initial launch - in store and for those on the waiting list. From what I hear they have had nothing since.
  • I'm also fed up with waiting for tesco stock and thinking of buying a 4s direct from apple and getting the £12.50 sim only deal. Apple are quoting 1 to 2 weeks despatch for the phone. Question is, do I sign up for the tesco sim only deal first then wait for the phone to arrive, or vice versa?
  • Just bought an iphone4s for the good lady, ordered it from carphone warehouse on Monday night and it arrived Wednesday.

She has gone the giffgaff route, £10 a month gets her 250 minutes on calls and unlimited texts and internet, her cut down sim arrived on Wednesday too.

So siri has been sending me plenty of texts
  • Sounds great. Presumably you just put the sim into the phone and away you go ? Sounds too simple, but maybe it's me being too simple!:o

Well that's about all she did, although there has been a lot of playing with it and a fair bit of 'Ooooh look at this' ;)

To get the cut down sim she went on to the giffgaff forums and followed a link, I think the cut down sim was sent via (or from) a forum member, but it does seem to have been a remarkably easy experience.
  • I'm going down the giffgaff route too,its just that I'd like the clubcard points from Tesco for buying the phone from them but looks as if its the Apple store for me.

I'm not buying the sim from Tesco simply because they restrict tethering . Why restrict anything, its like buying a car and you can't let your friend drive it !!! Its my damn car !!!!! or is it ?
