Well folks, I'm taking inspiration from you guys, have got off my A*S, stopped sulking over non contact, and done OH a box full of tesco Glitch Goodies.

Cant send chocolate (would be congealed mess by the time it got there), however, Haribo ghosts, Nivea Aftershave balm stuff and cheap suntan lotion will be winging its way to the sand pit

However, I have a mission, should anyone chose to accept. I dont get to see OH till feb when he gets 2 weeks R&R before heading back for a few more months :(

Sooooo, Christmas presents need to be able to fit into a shoebox, be something not too expensive, but something to put a smile on his face. Any suggestions? xx

When my OH was in Afghan I sent him a box of wine for his bday, I took it out of the box and the plastic bag thingy then fitted into his shoebox and weight was under allowance. He was v.impressed!

Also sent him some nice smoked dried meats that could cope with not being refrigerated. He put them with his noodles and rice when he cooked them and said it made it really tasty:D

Why would it close? There's been nothing offensive, abusive etc that the average person in the street would consider to be anything abnormal in everyday life. I hear much the same thing on here as when I'm standing at the bus stop. IMHO I think people make too much of the discussion on here that the title of the thread invites. Time for a change of title to remove DISCUSSION?:)

    I agree entirely!

Yes some of it has got a bit close, but I'd say even the FB discussion (although tedious and perhaps repetative at times) was pretty honest discussion and never sank to personal abuse! Well, the odd remark after a bit too much wine perhaps but nothing really nasty or personal.

For the most part I think the exchanges are pretty frank, but well tempered. Most internet forums would have descended into chaos by now!

I know some people seem to assume this little utopian bubble should exist around our group. It must be remebered we are all just people....just because we share a common interest doesn't make us all the same.

I actually like the honesty of this thread....warts and all! :)

Celebrate....wishing you lots of luck and sending you love and best wishes. I think by taking some time out at this difficult time in your life to help get things sorted is just what you need...it will help you and the kids come to terms with whats changing and help them settle into the changes easier. Get back into things from work...and create a new happier life for you and your children...you and they deserve it xx Once you start to regain confidence in yourself and your new routine, you will probably find life a lot easier...hopefully with that will come new friendships as well....but remember your MSE friends too....cos you still need to pop in from time to time... I mean, we all need a glitch now and again dont we!!! Good luck hun, and I hope things work out well for you xxx

Baileys - in the last few of years before my hubby retired from the Army (he did 23 years )...he did 2 tours of Iraq...one was over Xmas.... we managed to send over a small kiddies fibre optic xmas tree, just to cheer them up!! ..also, lots of drawings/letters/photos from the kids...try photocopying/reprinting old photos too as they'll be nice memories for him! Also...if he has favourite things like Heinz sauce/marmite etc...as these 'home brands' can help cheer them up! Also, in Ts they have reduced suncreams- go for the baby creams as they are higher factor and one (cant remember which) has insect repellant in it too. :)

sorry for the long post...I'm off to sleep now....looking forward to tomorrows Ts trip and Black Friday on Amazon!!!
hoping for a very MSE Ts glitching 2012!
  • :( I've got the flu so I've been in bed for a few hours and come back to a very unhappy thread. I agree with a the posters above, Leenie, Beki and Zippydooda .... please let's not get this thread closed. I am so very grateful to all the amazing deals and glitches I've had in the past 9 months since joining while DTD was on.... I miss those days! There are some lovely regular posters on this thread and though I don't often have enough time to read every post thoroughly, I enjoy catching up with people's news and deets of their successful T's trips. I really really hope we can get back to the community spirit this thread has always represented to me, it's such a shame to see so many of the regulars are leaving us.

Baileys my thoughts are with you, I'm so sorry to have overlooked your post regarding your non contact with OH. That must be so incredibly difficult for both you and him and my thoughts are with you. Here's hoping you hear from him very soon xxxxx

Celebrate :( I'm so sorry to hear of the troubles you currently have and that you feel your dedication to this thread has cost you greatly. I really hope that you find what you're searching for and come back and see us when you're feeling stronger and brighter. Take care of yourself xxxxx

  • ok the basic jyst was.

we are all to busy arguing amongst ourselves that we seem to have missed (i went as far to say chose to ignore) that baileys husband has been missing for ten days in afghanistan and no one chose to support her. i found that verry disturbing, it was verry long winded version of that but i pressed edit and lost my bottle because i thought i was going to be slated and decided to leave it and send a pm instead. now i cant go back to the post and theres no way i could remember how i worded it.
sending u big hugs Baileys hope all is well xxx and ty lovecrafting for posting this it makes u think about all the petty squabbling that has been going on in this thread and whats going on in the real world xx

hmmm when my brother 1st went to irag / afgan can never remember which, when it 1st kicked of 10 years ago, he was only 18 and I made him a shoebox and sent it over, i them got a 'bluey' telling me how much he appreciated the melted misformed cadbury mini rolls, and told me he wasnt impressed that even though he was 1000's of miles away in hostile territory that I was still managing to taunt & tease him horribly.

I totally forgot how HOT it got over there, in fact the heat issue never crossed my mind, I had never posted anything over seas before. I learnt very quick.

My mum earnt the nick name nanny noodles as she was sending over 100's of packets of noodles every day to be handed out as I think at the time morrisons had a buy 1 get 3 free promo on. Made her feel like she was doing something, kept her occupied.

my borther has been in afgan / iraq every year for 10 years. Now though, he seems to request fancy dress items and silly stuff. So we send a load of junk over to keep them amused.

We get the odd requst for charity shop challenges. Ie go into the charity shop and buy the craziest thing you can. It gives them something amusing to look forward too.
