We spend approx £80 each week on feeding 2 adults 4 children 3 giant african land snails & a cat who is fussy.
Seems a lot to me but hubby does the shopping. We don't eat extravagantly & i do cook a lot from scratch.
    Hope that helps

I have £120 per week housekeeping for 5. This comprises of £70 weekly shop.
£30 school dinners for 3, mine are fussy and won't eat packed lunches, they actually like school dinners. The final £20 pays for scouts which is £4 a week for 2 and £10 for my yoga and meditation class and i also go to the pictures on a sat for a fiver as well.

Approx £35 a week on food and then usually an extra £35 a month on household stuff or re-stocking the cupboard. This is for two of us and 2 kids at the weekends. I cook most things from scratch - apart from bread.

Forgot to say - my £25 (max) per week covers breakfasts, lunches for work and dinners cooked from scratch although I do eat at my parents' house once a week.

It's just me and DS who is 2 and i usually do a 'big' shop one week then a 'small shop the next so i spend £20 one week and £10 the next.
I try to cook as much as i can from scratch and am forever looking o here for different recepies, i love it!
I was chatting to a mate who was completely shocked at how much i spend on shopping, but i buy NO treats at all apart from value fromage frais which ds has one a day, th rest of the time he eats lots of fruit.

  • My budget is £125 per month (well that's the aim! It was previously £140 but am trying to reduce it). That covers breakfasts, lunch and dinner for me and dbf (who has hollow legs - I know I should be pleased that he loves keeping fit and doing lots of exercise but sometimes I wish that didn't automatically translate into him eating more :rotfl: )
It also covers cleaning stuff (trying to run it down then get Stardrops and white vinegar :money: ), occasional bottle of wine, basic toiletries and odd treat (Sainsbury's Taste the Difference raspberry and white chocolate cookies, yum yum!).
    Hope that helps you!

Forgot to say - have been doing a monthly 'big' shop on line then getting fresh stuff weekly/bi-weekly. meal plan for the month and write shopping lists, which helps. Also cook from scratch and now have a slow cooker!

  • Hi.
Thanks for all the replies so far. hope there will be more as it is really interesting. Bonnie you seem to have the same as me. I cant be doing that bad to start of with then as my £80 includes all the packed lunches as well. But i think with some serious OSing I can reduce this a little bit more.
    oneywise I certainly need to.
  • I spend £15 a week (sometime less) and this covers breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks, puddings for 2 adults.

That seems incrediably low.....can you help us by telling us exactly how you do it. Mine at the moment is about £45 per week for 2.
