Diesel Prices

  • Biggest price difference I have seen is at a small filling station in North Shields (Tyne & Wear), near where I work.

Its an independant, but sells Esso fuel.

    Unleaded - 130.9p/litre
    Diesel - 142.9p/litre

Most of the others are about 7-8p difference between the fuels.

    Had the calc out :)

My diesel banger has a 50 ltr tank and takes about £70 to fill now and I get roughly 450 miles for that
I travel 40 miles a day to work and back home so I am estimating £6 a day to travel that far
thats about £186 ish for a months travel knock off a few quid for the weekends and drop it to say 150 ish
    not too bad I guess.

Could a petrol do better ?

ps maths is not my strong point! ;)

Thanks for being honest about realistic diesel economy, I have a GTI petrol turbo 55 litre tank and get 360-420 miles depending on if most of my driving was round town, when I worked 15 miles away of M6 in the west midlands it was about 33-35mpg.

Maybe people should put positive energy into other things instead of moaning about how much fuel costs.

    Like what?

People are moaning about it because it is taking away a massive amonut of money from there budjet that would otherwise have been spent elswhere, like days out etc.

It is also costing jobs directly in the haulage industry or indirectly in the shops because people have no money to spend.

I'm sure it is, & I'm not about to disagree with you, but it never fails to amaze me when I'm reviewing our company's weekly mileage/gallonage logs to see how many drivers still use that excellium (sp?) boy-racer diesel that costs like 20ppl more, despite daily updates for everyone of which forecourts are cheapest & which ones to avoid..

I know that a driver has enough on his plate at any given time (I'm talking about anything from 3.5tonners to HGVs here, so they're not all worrying over tachos & their drive-hours), but when it's a case of just picking up a different pump on the same forecourt, I just have to shake my head & think to myself "mate, you're not helping matters.." :o:p
  • The local garage last week went from 133.9 petrol & 139.9 diesel to 131.9 & 140.9, I have no idea why. But its bloody annoying when you drive a diesel that struggles to hit 20mpg.

the biggest gap i have seen yet:

    Petrol: 128.9
    Diesel: 141.9
  • 137.9 for diesel at Morrisons in Caerphilly.

Not that £1.40 is cheap for a litre of diesel mind you but I've found that Caerphilly is the cheapest in the area, possibly due to Morrisons and Asda being close to each other.
