" When will people stop thinking fuel in a tank is right and not a luxury? If something is too expensive walk away...."
Funny last time there was a slump in the sales of cars there was a big panic, if governments want us to keep buying new cars the expense to run them should be fairer. What are we going to do, be priced off the roads but keep buying cars so Ford have a business?
It doesn't really matter what is a right or what is a luxury, we all need water but the water companies make hundreds of millions a year in profit, it's all about big business screwing the rest of us for as much as possible. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
I'm failing to see what you're issue is? Is it
a) you cant believe how much more expensive diesel is over petrol
Don't understand why the gap is rising at this time.
b) you're not happy with the variation in price between one pump and another
Correct particularly when they are main stream retailers in easily reached locations. These are not independents in some far off corner of the country.
c) you are generally not happy with the overall cost of diesel/petrol
IMO there is too much taxation on fuel, yes. There are too many automatic increases, just to keep the figure rising, to keep a number cruncher happy, without looking at the implications.

there must be at least 2-3 posts like this per month.
If you live in or close to a large conurbation then you may have a realistic choice, when you don't it does have a telling impact and you don't have a choice. It impacts us all in the form of higher transport costs leading to increase inflation.
Once again the Government is moving woefully slow on the "promised" introduction of a fuel stabilizer.
Yes I do walk away and buy my "luxury" at the most cost effective location.

If contributors to MSE don't think it worthy, because we have just done that one, then perhaps another forum could, to which those interested could show their support?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I passed a petrol station between Bromsgrove and Kidderminster today where petrol was 129.9p and diesel was 142.9p. Thats the biggest gap I have ever seen."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". The variation between petrol and diesel prices will always widen in the winter because diesel fuel is the same base-stock as heating oil.
It's a case of supply and demand - bigger demand for the product, the higher the price goes.
A similar condition exists with petrol - in the summer, more is sold, so the differential with diesel prices falls.
Having said that, the differential this year is much wider than usual. If the winter is mild, the differential will fall in February.0 -
Why are diesel prices so high?
I have seen up to 10-11 pence diffrence between petrol and diesel. Yet other places at times can be 1-2p diffrence.
Its about time MSE sets up another e-petition to get a commons debate on the diffrence in grades.
This is costing jobs in the haulage industry amongst others.
Prices are high enough without diesel drivers being punished even more.
Not sure why folk are whinging about diesel prices thought they were fantastic on economy if the diesel version of my car could really return 60+mpg I would happily pay £2 litre for the pleasure.
This was taken this evening before re-fueling
for the extra 6p/litre I would be getting an extra 30 miles0 -

I have one that does 58 on average and IMO any thing more than about 1.10 is a rip off.;)"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
