With an ENORMOUS amount of help from Take This I now have a restored PC :j This would have been impossible without his help so a massive thank you :T:T:T

    Quick Q's though....

I backed up the drivers onto a USB stick as advised but I haven't reinstalled them yet however everything seems to be working OK. Should I put them back from the USB?

Also, the person I'm going to give it to has their own monitor, keyboard and mouse from their old computer - will they be able to use them with this one without issue or will they need more software?

Have a look in the Device Manager. The yellow question marks denote missing Drivers.

Their Monitor driver should install automatically.

Ah, there's a couple of things with question marks. I tried to reinstate the original drivers but it hasn't helped :o

The screen is displaying funny (pages too large so you have to scroll up/down/across to see it all) and I'm guessing it's because the driver is missing from the 'video controller (VGA compatible)' and also the 'multimedia audio controller'.

    Any ideas?

Edit: Think I might have fixed it using the Slim Driver that SteveJH200 posted, still going through the process but it's looking good!

the instance id from device manager, details will lead you to the correct drivers

The best way of avoiding this problem in future, apart from creating the windows discs when buying a new machine, is to create a disc image, and rescue disc soon after purchase

Your Motherboard is the Packard Bell Columbia 5 GA-8SIML-NF5 R2.0 a variation on the GIGABYTE GA-8SIML (rev. 2.0)

So you can probably use the same Drivers(found within the Gigabyte link).

Thanks, the only thing I can't get to work is the audio. I used the SlimDriver linked to, it found the required driver but got an error message when it came to install it and now when I search for it on a SlimDriver scan it doesn't see that it's missing. It's the Other devices> multimedia audio controller. Can't see anything with that name on your link. Any other ideas?

Try the Realtek driver under the Gigabyte link.
