I exchanged my sale item and now had to pay ful price

  • Many retailers often have rack upon rack of sale items that they were unable to sell at the full price, and many times these are sizes that aren't big sellers, hence have an excess of them.

    If shops were willing to exchange them for popular sizes after the sale then I'm sure that many people would buy up the discounted goods and then exchange for a more popular size at a later date.

    Although perfectly legal it's not a good way to win customers, perhaps this is one of the reasons they are in trouble.

    Anyway, as pointed out several times, stores usually have included in their policy that sale/reduced items differ or "at managers/stores discretion". If relying solely on consumer law, they have no rights to return it simply because the size was wrong. One of the benefits of shopping online as in those instances you DO have statutory rights to return (but still not to replace).

    Anyway, kind of a moot point seeing as everyone is pretty much in agreement that they're justified in asking for the difference.

    Irrespective of whether it was online or not, on this occasion they chose to refund. End of story.

    What people choose to decide about the store for that is up to them. Now, if the item was faulty I would at least expect them to exchange. For a goodwill exchange though, it's up to them ... especially when going into the christmas peak sales time.

    Aye, I don't disagree it costs more, but generally (albeit not always) different size combinations are one flat price.. atleast at the prestigue shops I use (Primark :))

    But ye, ya last sentence pretty much rounds this thread off, problem solved, next problem please :D

    Providing outstanding customer service is a good way to keep customers yes. But it must be balanced with business sense.

    If you continually give in to customer "wants", your business will end up going under anyway due to the overheads and no profit margin (or of course you could build these overheads into your price and end up going under because you're overpriced). You need to have a product/s that consumers want. You need to have it reasonably priced. And you need to be competitive not just with other stores in the same area but also with online stores now too.

    Personally i think that was woolworths downfall. Can speak for other stores but the one local to me was still stocking the same stuff when i was 25 as it was when i was 5 (minus the cd's and games perhaps) and even in their clearance/shutting down sale with everything reduced by 40-60%....it was still more expensive than other stores.

    My local high street is far less crowded now than it was 10 years ago. Even around christmas its still pretty dead. But who wants to go into 20 shops when you can get everything either in one store (asda/tesco etc) or from the comfort of your own home with no hour long waits at the till, trying to squeeze past you, having those annoying xmas tunes played non stop for weeks etc?
