Amilucky I know how hard it is as I care for people with Alziemers and Dementia in a care home and have done for 17 years. I can get stressed after a 12 hour hour shift but can go home. You have to care 24/7. Talk to the estate Manager and tell her you would like some day care arranged for Alice. That will give you the break you need so you can recharge your batteries. It will do you both good.

Full respect to you for all you are doing. Do not be afraid to come and vent how you feel as you will always find a welcome in here I am sure. I don't know you but your post has touched me. If you feel like you need a break every now and again then you must tell someone and arrange some help, it is a wonderful thing you do for your wife but you can't do it alone and sometimes everyone needs a break. I hope you will get the support you deserve and need. Sending you much love.

I don't have much to say that hasn't already been said but you come across as very caring even in the face of hard times, don't hesitate to vent or just talk if you feel you need to (be it here or offline if you can), and I wish you and your wife all the best. :)

Amilucky? I can't tell you how much admiration I have for you, you write with such love and compassion of your wife and I feel for you so much, I can't imagine how hard it must be for you to do this day in and day out. The lack of sleep must make it harder too, but I'm glad to hear you have some help from Alice's son and his girlfriend, a break in the routine must do you both good.

I think it's amazing you've been married for so long too, in this day & age of 2 minute marriages it really cheers me to see some couples do have true commitment!

I do hope you get to take your break, I'm sure your wife would want you to have the trip of a lifetime and I think it would do you the world of good. I know what you mean about venting to other people, sometimes even if you have people in 'real life' to speak to it really helps to talk to people who maybe aren't involved, it's definitely helped me in the past.
Anyway, you are both in my thoughts and I wish you all the best xxx

My Mother-In-Law had Alzheimers so I know how hard it can be to deal with, although for us it wasn't 24/7. My Father-In-Law took care of her alone for so long before we all realised how bad it was, she seemed to be so normal when we were there. Then a few years later my own Mum was diagnosed with Dementia. I have no idea what the difference is between the 2 illnesses as she seemed to be in the same condition as my MIL. It's such a cruel illness, they say 'You always hurt the one you love' and Mum definitely managed to do that. She took against my Daughter for some reason and said some awful things both to and about her, that hurt all of us and it took months after Mum died before I could remember her with fondness. Get all of the help that you can, you can't shoulder it all on your own.

Amilucky? I don't really have any clever advice or inspirational words beyond what our other lovely posters have written, (Listen to them!) but I couldn't just ignore your post, if only to let you know I care too XXX
My own Mum has suddenly taken "Taken a funny turn" in the last month that they're reluctant to rush diagnosing. They've ruled out a stroke, toyed with both a water-infection induced delirium and a stress-related manic episode. Whatever, she's now in a psychiatric unit and very confused. Looks like being a long haul....

Take care of yourself too XXXX
