McKneff,
As you will see in my original post - I can understand the issue if she had been out of work for 2 months or more. But it has been 2 weeks!
I get the feeling that they are just putting pressure on her to take the first thing that comes along so that they can get her off the records. She spent 4 years at college to get her diploma - should she really be expected to give it all up after 2 weeks?
No, no one expects her to 'give it all up' dont exagerate, but a job in the meantime till something comes along that she wants to do is a reasonable thing to do.
And its not only to get the jobless figures down, it also means they are working and earnin and not claiming benefits which you and I pay for.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
This was also my experience when I was made redundant this summer. I was told that I was employable, clearly wanted to work so they'd just leave me to it for 3 months then we'd meet again to widen my search. Within 2 weeks I'd got another job so that wasn't a problem and I did appreciate being given the time to look for a job in the same sector before I had to start looking at anything and everything. After being made reduntant earlier this year ,OH and I went to the jobcentre fully expecting the staff to be awful.
We were really surprised to find that were were treated with respect and courtesy.
They were all really helpful( except possibly the security guards which were unsmiling and intimidating.)
Recently we had to sort out some paperwork as we had claimed council tax benefit for a while and found exactly the same at the council offices.
I just wanted to put another side to the story - they are not all bad.Whatever0 -
well I personally would rather apply for any job to keep me off benefits rather than be choosy for 12 weeks looking for my ideal job.
Benefits are supposed to be for the needy.0 -
mickeyrod, whereabouts in the UK is your daughter located?
I know of an airline in W.London that is looking for reservation staff.0 -
DAughter is allowed to limit her search to 2-3 specific job titles for the first 12-13 weeks. This makes absolute sense, people cannot just throw their careers away, clearly she can search and apply outside of that, but point being she doesnt have to.
My experience of the JSP, while not a negative one, is that they actually vary rarely have any experience of different roles and responsibilities in the real world, and would often suggest positions which I was clearly not experienced or had any aptitude for, just because there might be a few similar words and phrases used.
She needs to demonstrate willingness and open to other areas, especially as this first period might fly by and then she will have to broaden her horizons but two weeks is no time, and I am sure something will come along before too long0 -

perhaps, but what are the chances of getting that job?
If someone's skills and experience do not fit the job specification, it is usually pointless applying.0 -

bit of perspective here.
She isn't a doctor is she?
She has been working in the travel industry, booking holidays, not saving lives or helping people's health
If someone wants to work they will take whatever job is available, some times you have to swallow your pride.
Silly mickyrod. Guess the OP should have realised there is one rule for the middle classes and a different rule for the working classes when it comes to being out of work eh.
Bet if she was a doctor she would have been described as being between jobs.
Class snobbery does not even begin to describe this post.0 -
ah yes but that doesnt mean the job centre can identify thisOldernotwiser wrote: »Most people have transferable skills that can be used in many different situations.0 -
When I was made redundant last year I was told I had 13 weeks that I could restrict my search. The advisor did agree that if I was to go for "any job" with my CV & experience at that time no employer was going to take my application seriously as they were going to know it was a stop gap measure, however after 3 months of unemployment they were much more likely to accept that I was genuinely interested in the job.
I then got a job within 6 weeks, temp job in a totally different industry, borderline if the same job "title" but from that got a perm job with the same company in May paying more than the one I had 10 plus years experience for so that does prove that sometimes a "forced career change" can work out well.0
