Can i cancel my contract? Help!

  • Some companies offer temporary disconnections. It wont cancel your account but may give you a break for a few months... Which network are you on?

The only time a contract can be suspended is if the customer is serving in the armed forces and that would need a letter from the commanding officer as confirmation.
  • I'm afraid you can't just cancel for free, that's why it's called a contract, you've committed to pay x amount over the period of the contract.

My suggestion, ring your operator and lower your tarrif to the lowest one possible, stop using the phones, sell them towards raising the capital to pay off the contracts.

It may be the case for Vodafone, but not for all networks:

Yes they do definitely offer them*. Orange I'm sure were the only company highlighted on Watchdog as being able to do this for someone who wants to suspend their contract.

You cant lower the tariff, all contracts are non downgradable. cancellation is at the full cost of the contract with a 2% discount minus the VAT.

Minus VAT? Where...how? That's an urban myth! VAT is fully charged at 20% only any service provided. The discount - if offered - is based on the reduction of any bundle charges which, in turn will reduce the VAT element on the TOTAL charge. The 2% reduction accounts for the VAT reduction on that 2%, NOT the entire bill.

    It's probably not that simple:
    Paying off contract early....
  • How it's handled is really dependant on which network you're on, you have no rights regarding cancellation at this stage and for this reason, but they may be able to help so ask them, the worst they can say is no.
