Work can harm your health. I did lorry driving through agencies for many years. I had no regular sleep pattern and not only could I switch from days to night from one week to the next, many times I switched from days to nights in the same week.

As a result, and as you'll see from my posting times, I'm up all hours of the day and have real problems with sleep.

I also have an inoperable spinal injury. I did have one caused by work which was operated on and cured. However, despite taking it easy a further one developed and because of the first, is inoperable. That affects everything in my life and will til the day I die.

But, even though I can qualify for a life on the sick, like gardenia101 above, I feel worse for not working which is why I went self employed as I am unemployable due to my spinal injury.

Backpain is quite common in care work as well. But I want this house more than anything. I will probably slow down a little bit once I get the big depositI am wanting. Did a mortgage calculation on here yesterday 25 years on mortgage I want is £234 a month or £308 over 15. Not too bad. It is just getting the deposit.

Statutory minimum is what a lot of people get in reality. Not everyone gets fat cheque payouts. THe minimum is not designed to pay people for the next 4 years..

OP does not seem to be working a lot of hours to me though...! Depends what industry you are in and often what level you are at, 35-40 hours a week is a short week for many, is the reality. I dont think I have ever had that luxury...!

(Bought my house at 18 too...on £4900 a year salary and 13% interest rate!)

I know that, but surely it is designed to help people live until they find another job?

redundancy is not meant to help anyone live - you are meant to have 1/4 of your salary saved in a lovely bank according to the Job Centre.

I never heard of the jobcentre saying this themselfs. But know it is a natural rule to have 1/4 of your salary/ 6 months living expenses saved.
  • Get other help also make easier life.

Get what other help makes life easier? can you rephrase please.

Anyway to save starting a new thread. Just need a mortgage calculation for £40,000 mortgage over 25 years only came out at £254 (or summet like that) a month. Surely a mortgage isn't that cheap?

Average is £70,000 but I am hoping when I get my own house (around 25 years old) I will have near on 30k.

    Depends what you are after

Ex council flat 1 bedroom about £150k (due to size I guess)
2 bedroom purpose built flat about £140-£200k
    Houses - 2/3 bedroom about between £185k - £240k
