Just like much of the population working in the private sector.

Funnily enough, that's also the time families have to take their holidays, it's just as expensive for them. Except most working parents only get 4 weeks + bank holidays a year to cover 10 weeks + bank holidays + inservice days.
The Government believes that your child should only attend school for 190 days of the year, they think that any more would be detrimental to your child's development.

And people who don't work in these sectors should work til they drop because their jobs are far easier? 68 year olds cannot be teachers...surely that's ageism?
If you don't like that arrangement may I suggest that you enrol your child(ren) in a private school and pay for child care during their extended hiolidays..... Opps sorry, you can not afford it?......State school, such a bargain.

  • Can't afford them to be looked after either during state school holidays either...

Lose lose situation for working parents on low incomes.

No, it means if you compare the value of service provided by the public sector in this instance, it shows that you are getting extraordinarly good value for money.

It's not just about the pensions or only effect teachers. No teacher works 9-5 or a 40 hour week - its much much more! The job takes over your life and you never get a proper break from it. Everything you do has to fit around term time, and holidays have to be at the most expensive times. The figures the papers keep giving out are not a fair comparison as they are based on you working 8 more years. Parents want the best education for their children, but they are happy to let a 68 year old do that teaching! Really?!?! It is an exhausting job, as is nursing, fireman etc and the pay does not match the time, effort or stress.

This is exactly the type of whinging that annoys the private sector.

How many professions do you know where people work 9-5?

I'm an accountant, and rarely leae the office on time, and I take work home with, have to be away from home on Business Trips regularly
Also - I get the statutory minimum holidays of 28 days, with 24 of them fixed. I can only take 4 days holidays when I want!

It is also an exhausting job- any job is

And all things should be equal, IMO, everyone should get a pension relative to how muvh they pay into th system during there working life, regardless of if it is public or private sector. End employer pensions (employers must pay a 3% contribution for each employee) into a government backed scheme. Each individual can of course contribute more out of their ways if they decide
Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.

I'm sorry lazer but we may get accused of being "only bean counters" as a profession, lawyers may be labelled as "making money out of other peoples woes" etc etc but the Teacher gets told that they work from 9 - 3.15, get 13 weeks holiday a year, 5 inset days of jollies and a gold plated pension to boot. In short thay are regarded as having an easy time and over paid as well.

It is not suprising that Teachers are defining their working life for the masses because the masses are ill informed and deliberately misled as to the realities of the Teaching profession and many people would be horrified by the realities of the Teaching profession.

Don't get annoyed, inform yourself about the working lives of these people. Forget the "I have a mate who knows a teacher" brigade and find out for yourself. I did and my God they really do earn every penny they get.

I read this and thought it must be a joke!!! I collect my son from secondary school. Most of the teachers a whizzing off in their cars at 3pm before the kids have even got out of the gates!
