Just phoned apple customer services on 0800 048 0408 just to check if my replacement is any further along and have been told that the initial timescale of 6 weeks replacement is now up to 8 weeks due to them receiving more than expected as the guy said they didn't think that many were still around and also bad weather has delayed them receiving faulty ones back.

I requested replacement on 7/1/2012 and the guy said the order for my replacement went in on 20/1/2012 so I should receive my replacement on or before 12/3/2012 but if nothing arrives by that date then to call them back and they will chase it up

Just an update to my replacement nano,I posted mine on 7/1/12
And received my shiny little silver 8g replacement by UPS this lunchtime.
I would like to thank the original OP and everyone else who has contributed to this thread,I would never have known about the replacement scheme if it wasn't for you.:T

just an update still can't get into my account, but dd that sent her off just after xmas got her new one last friday

Typical, you go out for 2 seconds and UPS turns up and leaves a note through the door.
My pending date was January 13 and just had an email saying it was out for delivery.
So about 7 weeks in total for my replacement.(Now a Friday delivery hopefully)
