I have some similar bags and the shoots are just appearing here too. I basically keep them earthed up to right below the top leaves. Not sure about the fertiliser though, but will be watching for answers with interest!0

I found this invaluable last year and will be following it's advice again. HTH

Thanks for the link to the RHS advice page but I wish I had read it before planting up my tubs! I have put some maincrop in and see they don't recommend them for tubs. Oh well, I just hope the salad variety I put in do better! I will be better prepared next year!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

I expect they will. I grew Nicola potatoes in containers very successfully last year. Just over a stone of spuds from 6 seed potatoes!! (you'd never guess it was my first attempt would you? weighing them, I mean!):wave:0 -
Not sure if this will help anyone, I picked up 6 seed potatoes in Netto for 50p (which I think is a reasonable price?
). They're in a cardboard tray (like an egg carton but bigger).
May be good for someone with less space as no spare pots to contend with.
Thanks for all the tips on this thread, great for people just starting out this year :T0 -
I've been reading all your posts and have been inspired to give it a go myself.
I bought a potato growing kit from Homebase for less than a fiver, and got 3 bags and three varieties...I just hope it's a real bargain! Wish me luck!0 -
A couple of months have passed since the last thread, so I thought I would find out how people are doing! I have one dustbin and about 6 compost bags on the go, first earlies arran, but yet I have no flowers, although plenty of green leaves. Should I be seeing flowers yet?0
