We have a thread similar to this already, I'll add your query to it so all the replies are together. Posts are listed in date order so you'll need to read from the beginning to catch up

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Bought some Charlotte seed potatoes, they are quite large about 3" long, could I cut them in half to double the number of seed for my money?0
-
Yes you can cut them as long as there are growing bits on them.
I've never used seed potatoes just use ones that have started growing anyway.
Im sure theres a thread about chitting on here as I read it last week and have tried it out myself for this year. Maybe some-one can point you in the right direction.

Yes, chit them first so you can see where the shoots are, then cut them in such a way as to ensure there are as many shoots on each part (you can cut them in two, three or more parts if you want) as possible.0
