December 2011 - Grocery Challenge

Hi everyone
I am declaring £373.02 for this month which is £23.02 over budget but am not too disappointed as this is the first December grocery challenge I have done and had no idea how much I would spend. If I wasn't doing this challenge I know I would have spent more.
See you all on the January challenge.

Well, after looking at my bank statements I appear to have overspent on my budget
tbh I know I bought some Xmas presents in with my groceries so I can't be certain of my exact expenditure. I will keep closer track next year, 2012 is my year to get myself organised
See you all on the Jan thread where I will do better!

I've just spent a whole hour adding receipts up and it's not great news. Total spent this month was 275.23 (budget of £200)
Oh, well, there's always next month!:jBaby girl born 3rd October 2012:j0 -
I'm declaring at £180.67, an overspend of a smidge over £30 on our £150 budget. Oh, and 19 NSDs - a record in this house :T and one more than I was aiming for.
So, all in all, it could have been worse :rotfl: and we still have a good stash for January. [I've also, finally, realised that I won't need to buy Christmas cards for about the next 5 years, thanks to previous Januarys' 10p-a-pack clearouts...]
So: well done to those plucky few who made it in under budget, and onwards and downwards to the rest of us. We, too, can succeed [eventually].
I'll see you in the January thread, just as soon as we've agreed on our next budget - new year, new factors to take into consideration [yep, it's going to be tighter still...]
In the meantime, a happy, healthy and frugal new year to all of you, and thanks to everyone involved in these threads, participants and 'The Management' alike. You all rule. x
Haven't done the GC since February, but a glance at the Tower of Receipts tells me I really need to get back into it... and plenty of other Challenges besides.0 -
Hello, you lovely under-spending, well-organised people! I hang my head in shame and declare December at nearly £500!!:mad: Didn't do too badly at the beginning of the month, but lost the plot mid-way.
Have started planning for next year, and am off to confession and to start the January GC! :rotfl: Our tea tonight was SC leftover Christmas roast beef turned into a stew with assorted bendy veg found lurking in the fridge, so didn't have to buy anything - phew!

I have not had time to update since Christmas eve, but I have managed 5 NSD's and had to shop twice for milk, fresh fruit and veg etc, these added £40.83 to my total.
I am declaring £353.45 for December, nearly £100 less than my budget which is not as good as it sounds considering I had increased my budget to allow for whoopsis. I just could not seem to find anything reduced by much this year
On the plus side. I have L/O turkey and beef in my freezer and after our roast tomorrow, there will be pork too. We still have chocolate and sweets coming out of our ears, I really think that it is a case of everyone wanting what they can't have and then once it is there, no-one is overly interested, but at least it means that the children will not be asking me for sweets for at least a month:)
Right, off to post my January budget, dish up tea and then finally settle down with a glass of wine or 2 (not been able to have any since Christmas day due to having to drive).
I hope everyone has a very Happy and Healthy New Year.

Last spends of the year of £5.74 on coffee, yoghurts and milk. I'm going to declare at £82.94.
I have been recording my monthly grocery spending since the start of this year and overall it is £1056.87. I am hoping to better this in 2012 and to use more of the veggies we grow on our allotment
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year x0 -
Well, I've just faced up to reality and added up my receipts for Dec (haven't updated on here since about 3rd Dec) - and I've spent £213.23, that's a total of £325.18 for Dec so £75.18 over budget.
I think I need to plan better next year. I also need to make sure I'm updating on here everytime I spend so that I keep track better as it makes a huge difference.
Off to the Jan 2012 thread as i had a bit of a spend yesterday as was near Asda and this should mean I don't need to go food shopping again until next Friday (and it's definitely coming out of Jan's budget)
see you on January's thread

Well I am sat here sipping a rather nice single malt and watching Parky with Morecombe and Wise and waiting for the Hootenanny and thinking about how last year went money wise and what the goals are for us. It is going to be a busy time I think as I try and do loads of things and save money at the same time.
We had a small last spend today in W!lko's. I needed some more of their own brand slimfast like stuff, £4 a tin and I prefer it to Slimfast. Also some Nappy pants, £3.99, DS2 is autistic and is not always dry at night. We also grabbed a loaf of bread, £1.20 , so the kids could have a few slices to feed the ducks and swans. They had the toppers and a couple of slices plus some toppers I had bought from home. We bought the rest home for sandwiches but I am glad that I make my own. DH also bought a DVD for £3 .
After the ducks had been duly fed we had a walk along the river and let the kids blow off some energy and tire them out. They had great fun playing and it was free
When we got home I bunged some lamb cutlets in a roasting tin and drizzled with olive oil and ground some salt and pepper over them and popped them in the oven for 30mins, turning halfway. I served them with cheesy mash and some bacon, garlic, savoy cabbage and yesterdays green beans all fried off together. It was slightly ruined as DH added some soy sauce while my back was turned mashing potatoes. It was not the taste I wanted so I didn't enjoy it and niether did 2 of the kids which I could of told him if he had asked and then I could have taken some out and he could have done what he wanted with it. Pudding was MrT mint choc chip icecream.
I have some mash left and some grated cheese. We will be off to my brothers for a family gathering tomorrow so I don't need to do any cooking. Monday will be the chicken and leek pie from the chicken the other day. I will do some more cheesy mash and add todays lot to it and do some carrots as well to serve with it.
I am declaring £315 for December. Nicely under budget so some of the problems DH caused will get sorted. Hope I can carry it on next month.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy New Year and look forward to chatting to everyone on the January thread.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0
