  • Just thought this book might be of use to anyone wanting to start a pantry - its free for kindle at the moment but you do not need a kindle to read it - you do have to download the kindle for pc app thought, but if you have another e-reader you can use calibre to convert it or just read it on the kindle for pc app. There are quite a few recipe books free as well at moment, it changes every week or so. The book is american but on glancing through it as only downloaded it, it still seems to give some good ideas, and the price is right so even if you find its not for you, no money wasted :)

I have given up with my budget for Dec as Christmas bits and bobs threw it, but at least not in debt for Christmas everything paid for by cash. From Jan I have to set a budget of about £50 and no more per week and less if possible as money is going to be far, far less most likely. At least I have a small store of food in to help.

Thanks a lot for this :)

I'll post my final total for December after I have checked my bank statements :o Completely lost track :o

I am going to set an annual target for next year of 3600 to take advantage of bulk buying - hopefully this will work for me (fingers crossed!)

  • Top up shop to get fresh fruit and veg, and tinned beans, into the house -- £17. So I'm now £44 over target. But the freezer is full so that bodes well for January.
Make £2023 in 2023: (all decluttering), current total £2860 me, £330 for friends & family, £468 charity donations.

Declaring a total of £463.31 for December. If I hadn't filled the freezer with reduced meat from co-op the other day I would be even lower. Most of it won't be eaten until next month anyway. Hopefully that will give me a good head start for January. Off to January thread now...

I am declaring at £60, so £40 under will tranfer this to my holiday pot.

Well done all and many thanks to everyone who make this thread the inspiration it is

Wish everyone a Happy and successful (Frugal ) 2012.

  • I have set myself an annual budget of £1680, which works out at £140 per calendar month. I think someone else (sorry, can't remember who) has set the same budget for themselves, and it got me thinking about under- and over-spends, and using bits of budgets for stocking up etc. It made a lot of sense, so that's what I'm doing! To be completely honest, I'm hoping to get it closer to £1200, esp as I'm not hosting Christmas next year, but I don't want to set myself up to fail!!

    Think it might be me:D

I'd love to come in at £1200 too .... maybe we can help spur each other along (with everyone else of course!)

Dinner tonight was SC chicken. I ground salt and pepper over the top with dried coriander leaves and about six cloves of garlic crushed up. Served it with boiled potato which I tossed in butter and sat and pepper. Carrots and green beans. I made chicken gravy out of the juice and some of the carrot water.

The rest of the chicken and gravy will go to make a pie with a leek that is languishing in the bottom of the fridge.

Though tomorrow we are having lamb cutlets with cheesy mash and the green beans that are left fried off with savoy cabbage and bacon.
