December 2011 - Grocery Challenge
Comments
-
My December budget started on Monday with a target of £384.
I am trying to spend around £96/week but have overspent this week already:o After a trip to Mr S for bits for 2 christmas hampers and some stuff we had run out of I am now at £107.20 and I don't include the christmas stuff:eek: This does include a 12 hole muffin tin (no other budget to stick it in really), 4 bottles of shampoo, 2 boxes of teabags(really like Mr S basics ones after they were recommended on here) and sandwich stuff for DS that should last him a couple of weeks at least.
My week ends on Sunday and I am away for the weekend but will be buying a couple of bottles of Aldi wine and some beer for DH to have on Sunday night so another £10 to add there and a bag of spuds will be needed for Sunday night too but will last most of next week.
I decided to buy an Enchillada kit and some quorn pieces, which although not a cheap meal, is cheaper than the chinese I know we would order on our return on Sunday night and will do us both lunch or dinner on Monday with some salad or wedges.
I have meal planned for the next 3 weeks which takes me to the end of the grocery challenge but really could do with trying a few new meals, everything on it we have had a gazillion times.:(Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
Make £2021 extra income - £99.750 -
My December challenge started last week and my budget is £200 please0

Wahay!!! New thread! :j
Thanks Zippy, :A rosieben :A and helen jelly :A for all your hard work to keep us in line and on target. :T
Please put Spiggle down for £250 for December as I have a nicely full piggy bank for Christmas and won't be buying that much extra than usual. Famous last words methinks! :rotfl:
I still have to finish off November but wanted to say thanks and make sure I was on the list. I'll pop back and forth between the two until next Wednesday when my month ends.
Take care all,
SpigsMortgage Free October 2013 :T0 -

Hi all, always good to be on the first page!!
I'm already marked down for £150 this month (thanks!), and am really going to try to stick to it this time. I will also be spending the month putting some serious thought into next year. I'm toying with the idea of having an annual budget, broken down into monthly chunks, so that IF I go over, it can be made up for in the months to follow. I shall be saving £1 a day for Christmas next year too, as this year it's kinda crept up on me!
NSD today; will make it through to either sat or sun to do a shop - need milk, bread and fruit, but not too much else. Milk is running low due to having visitors today, but if we run out, then we'll have toast for breakfast on saturday (or maybe a cheeky bacon sarnie!).
Take care all,
PG xGrocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100
Frugal 2018 needed! Saving and NOT spending0 -
Right, I'm finding this quite difficult to predict as it includes the stuff for an extra 3 people for 3 days over Xmas.
I think its 3 "normal" shopping weeks and Xmas week for me - I'll probably live off the leftovers between Xmas and New Year and only need a fresh bits so I think I'll go for...
£30 a week for the 3 normal weeks and
£60 for Xmas week (been stashing a few bits and pieces as I been going along for a few weeks)
That's a total of £150 for December - sounds too small to me but I can't think what else I'll need at the moment . We eat at a restaurant for Xmas Lunch so it will only be tea and nibbles for the rest of the day but Boxing Day is a sort of buffet affair. Xmas Eve is usually a takeaway of some description too (not counted in this budget).
Hmmm.... seems to good to be true?0 -
Evening all. Cannot believe this is my last GC of 2011 , only seems like 5 mins since my 1st! Thank you to all who run the thread, and all who post. Merry Xmas to all!
I would like to declare £271 for november, and am Going for £300this month also. This is because I have held my Xmas day meal due to OH going back to middle east, so hoping to get invites out over the real Xmas! I also need to loose weight for my holiday in Dubai in feb, so not much Christmas spirit here! I have also finished my Xmas pressie shopping, so just minimal extras for me.
Will be reading others posts with interest, and looking forward to GC2012!0 -
More December spends!
£9.28 in Tesco on cat litter and reduced pineapple.
£11.27 in Sainsburys which thankfully doesn't count as I used the leftover petrol money from last month which sits on a giftcard that I buy discounted from work. That bought yet more cat litter (cat #2 hasn't been well and, well, large volumes of cat litter are proving necessary and expensive!) and two packs of venison sausages reduced from £2.59 per pack to 64p :money:
I'll post tomorrow with where that leaves my December budget, as I have to check online banking tomorrow0 -
Please count me in for December. I didn't post last month but think I did fairly OKish although I didn't keep records. There are 5 Friday housekeeping days for me in December but as I am hoping we can survive the last week on Chrismas leftovers I am hoping to do it for £200. I have put in an on-line order from Mr S which comes Saturday and with the £10 money off voucher it came to £46.76. With what I have in the freezer (which needs using up to make way for Christmas food) I am hoping to get away with only buying fresh stuff for the rest of the month.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

Last night's shopping leaves me at £76.45/£200 for December :eek:0
