  • Hmm, I actually wrote to Nationwide's customer services department and advised them that I did not want to be sold to while carrying out my transactions in branch, and it seems to have worked :)

lol and i'll put money on you'll be one of the first to complain after 6 months and you find out your savings aren't in one of their other accounts offering twice the interest all because you weren't told............
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Actually, no. I have no savings anyway, and I do my own research for the best deals. All Nationwide's staff can do, iirc, is advise on their own products.

There are millions of customers out there who will happily let thousands rot away in an ISA earning 0.1% because they didn't realise they could transfer to a better paying account. Millions with home insurance that has never been reviewed, millions paying bank charges they didn't realise could be cheaper on another account, millions using debit card over the phone and internet because they never realised they could get protection on a credit card.

Just because it isn't right for you, doesn't mean it isn't right for somebody.

Retail banks in he UK make their money through other products, such as loans, insurance, credit cards, and fee based bank accounts.

The only way to reduce the cross-selling, is to align with other countries and charge fees for everyday banking.

Would you be happy with it?

    Didn't think so.

You have no savings yet you do your own research.....clearly not working out for you maybe you should let them give you some advice lol.

Well I would say its pretty obvious that nationwide staff would only advise on their products, why on earth would they discuss lloyds or barclays services. You don't go to a ford garage to be told about the astras specification.........

As already said whilst a lot of people do their own research a lot of people don't, maybe thats why this country is in this financial mess so I for one am all up for banks offering advice and services that could benefit people. Thats not to say the bank etc is offering you the best possible deal on the market but it does get people thinking about savings, investments, insurances, debt etc and they should still do their own research.

At the end of the day if your not told about something how do you even know about it, if you knew everything you wouldn't be a member on this forum seeking advice......................
