Please dont scan through my accounts to assess whether im suitable for potential money making products. I only want you to put my money in your till, say thanks and give me a receipt - not much to ask for really, its how things used to happen some time ago in olden days.
if I wanted credit card, personal loans or insurance, I wouldnt just accept such a thing on impulse in any case. I know youve been told to do this, the numbers game of irritate every customer until finally you find one who can be signed up - some management idea - but why waste my time, yourselves and others standing in the queue - because I will never ever sign up - I do my own research.
I expect if things continue like this in society - one day to go to my supermarket and if I buy some flour and milk, checkout assistant will suggest I could buy eggs aswell and make a pancake.
The bank never used to be like this, holding card ransom until jumped through multiple hoops of questioning before can be allowed to 'escape'. Its like a bank robbery in reverse. I put the money in but get held hostage.
generally, this "make the customer your friend" superficial exercise really only works on a limited percentage of gullible or impulsive or non assertive driven customers, perhaps those who cant say no to their new "friend" theyve made.
I now avoid the tellers and use the automated in branch machine - it doesnt irritate me half as much and sadly, id prefer a pleasant human interaction - but if it does them out of a job eventually, as is happening in supermarket checkouts, I wont really miss them.
Not the tellers fault, its the management.
I avoid Nationwide and have at times if possible chosen to put my money into my another accoutn at a different bank simply because I dread the way they are trained to do this nearly every time without fail. They arent the only ones by far but I think they should learn that not every customer enjoys the experience.
Perhaps there be some kind of way of "opting out of sales pitches" that come up on their screen when the teller swipes the customer's card through? shouldnt be too difficult and think of how much wasted time of both teller and customer could be saved.

Wouldn't it be great if there was some sort of "opt out badge" that could be displayed about your person and on your door making it illegal for people to try to sell you stuff / donate money."Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" It annoys me that some shops always ask "Do you want cashback". If I did, I would ask for it!.0
-
Why would they stop doing this when there actually ARE some customers who do take up the offer? They know thats their chance to actively promote other products to customers, and that leaflets etc sent out with their statements are usually just chucked in the bin.
They also won't stop because SOME customers are grateful for it, as on the odd occasion it does save them some money. I'm not saying it's always appropiate but just because you don't like doesn't mean they'll stop it. Just politely decline, and ask if there is anyway of putting a marker on the account to save them the time in future asking you.
Not everyone is as savvy as you and will do their shopping around, and obviously, banks are businesses too and will try to optimise every opportunity to make more sales.''Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by a$$holes.'' :whistle:0 -

And if you forgot to ask for it, you would complain that you weren't offered it.0 -
Wow, what a nation of moaners we are.''Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by a$$holes.'' :whistle:0

Superdrug - postage stamps
Wilkos - stamps and mobile top ups
W H Smiths - half price chocolate
Halifax (my bank) - is there anything else we can help you with today. Errr no ta. Have you time to discuss how we can help you, errrr NO I only have 30 mins lunch break and have already wasted half of it standing in the queue here!
To be fair, I know they are only doing their job, but I am a big girl now, and if I want something I will ask for it. So I don't really have a problem with it, some of it makes me laugh, some makes me think, hurry up and do the sales spiel I need to go buy a cream cake
and get back in time to eat it!
I don't mind being asked if I want cashback though as I do sometimes forget that the reason I have used my card is because I have forgotten to get cash out. Duh!whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

But you are on a "vent" forum. It's no use moaning about people venting here. A bit ironic really.0 -
Obviously I realise its a vent forum. But I'm allowed to give my opinions on vents. And I think the OP and posters like Dazi should realise there are worse things to worry about in life than people asking if you'd like some chocolate etc. They are seconds/a few minutes long conversations but yet they are so worked up about them, and are probably really rude to the people asking. Having been on both sides of those conversations I just don't think it warrants such reactions.''Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by a$$holes.'' :whistle:0

and for the record I am never rude to the people who ask the questions, I always say, am ok thanks....the same as I do when I am packing my shopping into my own bag and am asked if I want a carrier or if till lady/man starts putting my shopping into a carrier I always say, its ok thanks, I have my own bag, I am very polite!
I was just posting that I really don't need to be asked all the time if I want this and that when I am shopping. I shop with a mission, I know what I want and have a limited time to get it!whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine
