New PSU, no power

I installed a new Lepa W500 power supply to my computer, connected everything up but when i pressed the power button the light on the front of the pc turned on briefly (half a second or so) and all the fans start for the same amount of time then everything just stops. No beeps or anything, nothing happens if i press the power button again and all of the cables seem securely plugged in

Any ideas?

Yes it is the Dell and the new psu is to power a graphics card. (i didnt put the graphics card in yet as i wanted to try the psu from 'my last know working configuration' so to speak)

i took the new one out and swapped it with the old one and everythings working fine again, guess i'll just have to send it back :(

It could be that when the old PSU blew, it took out the motherboard. Doesn't often happen, but it can do.
As closed says, if it's a Dell of a certain era, a generic ATX PSU will not do, as the pin configuration on the mobo connector is non-standard.
Edit: obviously not the mobo then.
    Which model/year is your Dell?

Dell Studio 540 with a 0M017G mobo, not sure of the exact age but a few years - 2008/9?

Not 100% sure, but i thought that they stopped using the non standard PSU's around 2006/7?
Put the Service Tag no. into the Dell support site and it will give you the ship date. Or post it here (7 digit no. on the case) and someone can check for you.

From a previous thread it has already been established that this computer uses a standard ATX PSU.
