  • Can anybody advise....

I already have the recommended depth loft insulation. I am looking to get my cavity walls insulated in a 3 bed semi. Looking at the current offers such as Tesco and SSE, they will only do it for free if they can do both the walls AND the loft. Is this a strict policy or has anybody just had them do one and not the other.

Can't they just leave me with x rolls of insulation if they really have to do 'get rid of it' in order to get their money from the Government?

    Any thoughts? Thanks alot.

No you don't have to have both done to get the cavity done, I work on both Tesco's and SSEs schemes and I have never heard of that rule they stipulate. Can I suggest that if you are still having that problem to go to the energy saving trust website, enter your postcode and answer a few questions and they will give you installers in your area.

I have beads which have been installed in my cavity walls about 20 years ago. Over the years, what with window replacement and other stuff done to the house, beads have blown away, fallen out of cavity etc due to insufficient glue.

I am about to replace windows in kitchen but when that is done would like to top up my insulation.

Will my utilities company consider me? If not where should I go to get it done - reputable company belonging to what trade organisation?

    Thanks - any advice welcome

Sorry but its impossible to be topped in such a way, no installing company will consider it.

Does anyone know if the £84 charged by British Gas to widen the hatch is standard and charged by all companies? I also have a small hatch so even if I'm able to qualify for free loft insulation it's unlikely to actually be free as I'll need to pay for a wider hatch. £84 seems a bit steep when you're expecting something for free. Does anyone know of any companies doing it cheaper?

The loft hatch needs to be 14inX14in minimum for quilt insulation, there are companies that install blown cellulose insulation in such cases, they will be far cheaper than the £84 for a new loft hatch quoted by British Gas, though that price doesn't seem to be that expensive to be honest

  • Free Radflek packs.

Waited for the link to go live at 12.00 today. Initially the link wouldn't work - presumably due to traffic volume - got into the site at 12.27. "0000 free packs left".
I'm finding it difficult to believe that all 1,000 went in 26 minutes - that's 38 a minute.

We moved into an end terrace last year (end terrace but with another end terrace next-door) and have been told that our walls are not cavity walls.

The problem is that the surface area of the external wall is quite large (as it would be for an end-terrace) and we're freezing cold even with the heating on.

We've been given two options, external insulation and internal insulation.

The problem with external is we MAY need planning permission. We share our entry with the other end-terrace next door and external solid wall insulation will take 2inches (minimum) off the entry way. It's not the widest of entries as it is and will make wheeling our wheelie bins around more difficult as well as potentially annoy the neighbours.

The problem with internal wall insulation is that we'll lose at least 10cm of width off the rooms. With our rooms not exactly being spacious, this is going to impact on the price of the house when we eventually sell up and move on.

Are there any alternatives that aren't going to be as intrusive or cause as many problems as the above options?

Same prob, but got onto their site by 12.07, already all apparently gone. So that's 140 per minute ....
Are we buying this? I think not!

Hi guys, sorry but all the radiator reflector packs were gone within 2 mins of me putting the offer live. You can still get 20% off a pack though - check the guide for details.

    Many thanks,

Don't worry about Tesco, try the energy saving trust link below, they will show you installers in your area.
