  • Hi, could I join in please? I will at some point try and catch up with the thread- will be difficult though. I have £10,000 to pay off and my wages aren't even that so its going to be difficult and thats the reason I haven't joined earlier- but its worth a try! If I aim for the stars and reach the moon then I'll be happy! I have loads I can eBay plus a little buy to sell project Im hoping will take off :), did really well over past few weeks with it but the items were good christmas presents so I will have to see how it goes in the new year. Im also doing SB and the £10 a day challenge so that will help.

I have a couple of payments that I have made today but I will add that when I have my number etc :)

    Hi everyone

I have been thinking about money lots recently thanks to this fab thread and have been looking at how to manage our money in the new year. Does anybody have any tips at all? I really want to set ourselves budgets for stuff like food but not sure what else to account for? I really want to keep a little money aside for Xmas too coz this year has been so hard getting presents from this months wages. Have overspent too so wanting to get smart in 2012 lol

Any advice would be much appreciated :)

P.S That's awful about your purse lulalolly  Keep asking at local police station in case it gets handed in or at shopping centre where you were may find it in a bin or something. Fab news about tax rebate tho, karma is a wonderful thing :D

It's a real back to basics way of budgeting. I have a hard back A4 notebook which I write down all my dd's for the month - 3 columns for the 3 accounts including the dates they go out on (8th & 15th). I then have a column for my envelopes: Food, Diesel, Scouts, Tutor, Playgroup, Holiday/Christmas, school dinners, son's spends etc etc literally any commitment I have for the month! Because both dh and I are self employed it's been a real struggle to get a start and end to our month..it's taken me a year and a half to co-ordinate our wages so that I get most of my money the first week in the month. One of the most satisfying moments in the month is to distribute the money over the accounts and to fill my envelopes then it's job done - all the bills paid and all the envelopes full, in the last six months I have been able to include a weekend cash envelope for a little treat. I have another column for unexpected spends under the headings of need or want and I try to note down anything extra that I spend - I don't always manage but I'm not bad with it now. The real bonus is that because all the money is accounted for I have to physically open a different envelope if I overspend and then it's very obvious that I've gone wrong so I tend to remember what I'v blown it on, it also shows me if my budgets are not adequate. This has helped me to save £1600 up in the last four months (I'm saving up to finish my bank loan off in January £2400) and has showed me that actually yes, I can save up :T

Like I said, very simple but very effective and I'd recommend it to everyone :D

DD1981 This is the system I use and it's very effective

Lulalolly sending you hugs, I have a note from my Mum written the year before she died and I can only imagine how I would feel if it were taken from me, just hold on to the fact that all those memories are in your heart and not your purse xxx
  • Awww Lulalolly I'm really sorry to hear about your bag being stolen - how awful that someone would take it while you were sorting out a baby!! Fingers crossed you get the letter back *hugs*

Well, I was pretty much sorted. I've finished work today (childminder) and apart from a fund raising event on Friday (Scouting) that's it until January unfortunately for the last month or so all the little ones have been passing colds and viruses around and guess what? I started with a cold this morning and now I'm achy, shivering, hot and cold and looking like a certain reindeer :( How rubbish is that? and how often does it happen to us, when we work so hard that as soon as we start to relax we get ill......I love the B00ts advert where the women meet on the street and ones decorating the bathroom and getting ready for the inlaws coming but she's popped out for medicine for her OH :rotfl:
  • hi - I have been lurking on this thread and think its a great incentive for everyone. I would to join th challenge too - will come back in the New Year with the figures - hope this is ok?
