  • I agree with you about Santander - they tried to charge me £25 for a bounced direct debit that bounced when it shouldnt have (had more than enough money in the account) When I spoke to their contact centre I got three different stories. Then I got a letter saying that 'On this occasion we have waived the fee'

  • Hi guys!! DOnt get me started on Satantander GRRRRR. THe saga of my direct debits is trundling on- they are currently still with santander but should be with co op. I too get a different story each time I ring each bank

ANyway hope everyone is well! I just paid £5 of Vanquis - I love paying little bits and them having to process them :) My Very is still at £0 and I paid £20 off SImply Be this morning (I HATE that catalogue of nasty nylon clothes by my vacuum cleaner I got from there ROCKS lol)
I am hoping to clear Vanquis really soon- its at about £200 and then I can focus fully on the Capital one.

A question actually if I may- my catalogues (Littlewoods, Very and SImply Be) all have put my limits up- I now have about £1200 limit with each. My Vanquis limit is £2050 and Capital One similar. These have all gone up recently. Is it worth trying to find a mainstream CC to transfer too? It looks like my rating is repairing as they all keep throwing higher limits at me...........

If you've got a good credit rating then its worth trying to get a 0% balance transfer for them all. I assume that as they are catalogues they are charging you extortionate interest?

If your credit rating is shaky and you think your chances of getting a card are slim then no, as that may damamge your credit more :(

Just re-read your post, One thing that worries me is that the increased limits are not so much to do with your credit rating improving and more to do with enticing you to start spending again, especially as you have now shown you can pay. As much as i'd like to believe that lenders have their customers interests at heart . . .

  • I agree with Jakes Mum - They are enticing you into more debt. I bet they havent even looked at your credit file.

You can email these companies and ask for the credit limits to be reduced - I did it with both Very and Capital One before I piad them off so that the temptation wasn't there.

  • Hi Idris,

If you know that you have paid everything on time for at least the last six months and you haven't had any bank charges for going overdrawn etc plus your accounts have all been within their credit limit you could have a go a credit card - but if you do and you get rejected then you need to wait at least another six months before you try again. Pop over to the Credit Card forum for better advice before you try anything.

I agree with the others though it's an indication that they want you to spend more money with them and don't forget the catalogues are owned by each other - Marsh*ll W*rd, V*ry and Ism* are all the same company - I think Littlewo*ds might be part of the same group, if you look online the web pages are identical.

Let us know how you get on xx
  • Thanks guys. I only ever use my Littlewoods at 0% now (lesson learnt) and will be paying off the dreaded vacuum cleaner of simply be asap lol. I dont think I will apply for an interest free yet. I can check on credit expert jobby but i fear my credit rating is still pretty crappy (although I did recently get accepted for current account with santander and my work ran a credit check when I took on my franchise and I passed)
I am definitely getting the buzz of this thread now- I cant wait to pay off the vanquis card of doom to the extent that I am thinking of using my (free) overdraft to pay it and just being skint for a couple of weeks- after all its christmas and once everythings bought its actually quite a spendless time of year once you get to the actual few day period as the shops are shut LOL

Switch from credit expert to noddle, it's free :) I've been using it for 3 months now. I log on once a month to make sure there's no discrepencies :)

Xmas party last night, free bar, ill on the night bus, bf on the phone for 2hrs making sure I got home ok and didn't fall asleep on the bus, ill again this morning, worked from home, took flu tablets at 2pm, headache now gone, not on the road to Wales like I'm meant to be, car 2 miles away, still feeling rough :( No money spent so far today, but I'm going across to the petrol station in a minute for lucozade. Although not sure if I should get something to eat or not? Not entirely sure how my stomach feels about food.

Oooh, I use Credit Expert, will have to give Noddle a go.

Sorry I've been away, been through a low patch these last couple of days. If I get any worse, you might be subjected to another poem!

I've had a lull in the payments, and to top it all off, I've had a puncture on my car. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it can be repaired, otherwise tyres for the thing are about £80. :(

Counting down the days to payday, which is now 5 days away!
