Retaining plusnet email access after terminating broadband ?

Anybody had any experience with retaining plusnet email access after terminating plusnet broadband ?
Currently my account is 'on hold' but not terminated i.e. i do not currently have broadband access but they have the facility to turn it back on should i want it again - I still retain access to plusnet email in this state
Hovwever I am now coming to the end of the agreed 'hold' period & was wondering if I can fully terminate the service but still retain email access ? - I am asking here before asking plusnet so I have an idea of what to expect when I phone them
I vaguely recall you might be able to switch to PAYG dial up access to retain email access ? - even if this is still allowed would you not have to actually dial up once every so often to keep the account active ? - not really something I would want to do as I'd probably forget to do it and i dont actually currently have a landline to dial up from ! (I'd have to dial up from someone elses - if thats even possible)

Why not just switch to Gmail? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I did say i was phoning them & have - just wanted to be clued up before though
turns out you can downgrade to 'justmail' but cannot have an account on hold longer than 6 months unless there is some extenuating circumstances
apparently if you only want 1 mailbox this is free of charge - approx. £28 quid of you want multiple mailboxes
the only fee was the usual BT wholesale £25 cease fee

Ive given out my plusnet email to too many people & organisations to make a change to gmail / hotmail etc.. - Im bound to forget to change all of them & could lose important emails0 -
Group bcc email to all your contacts takes 5 minutes. Change your various online accounts-maybe an hour? Once you have an ISP-independent address, you never have to worry again.
You'll more than likely still be able to receive Plusnet emails after you cancel for some time, but you won't be able to send from that address. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Hi, I am in the same position as you. Do they charge for a justmail account and can you access your one mailbox account by logging on as usual?
I used to have a dialup account with lineone many years ago and I can even now still access my mailbox because I had a very small balance left in my account when I terminated it.
Thanks.0 -
switch to an ISP independent email, gmail or hotmail, you can copy all your emails from the old ISP email to the new one using an email program like windows live mail. yes it is a little hard work to change your email address on any sites you log into, but it will be much better for the future.0

I think it is not possible to retain the email when you stopped using the other service.0

Hi all,
It's certainly possible to keep your email active if you cancel the broadband, just ask to keep the account active for mail (either in a ticket or over the phone, however is easiest) and we'll arrange it for you. The cost is £1.06 a month and there's no limits on the number of mailboxes.
If you wanted to change to a web based email provider I know that gmail will allow you to collect mail from other boxes. From experience I can tell you that this does work with Plusnet mailboxesYou can also set it to send from different addresses as well, so replies will still come in to the Plusnet address (and be collected by gmail).
Hope that helps,

Gmail periodically collects mail from the Plusnet inbox using POP3.
You can bulk copy all your Plusnet webmail (Squirrelmail) mailbox folders to Gmail if you run an application like IMAPSize on your PC.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
