Awwww (((hugs))) Lola - I can totally sympathise .... I'm not a bad cook and can produce some reasonably complicated things if I put my mind to it but cheese sauce is always a disaster for me too!:(

I know how to do it ... have been shown how to do it (many times) .... but it just never works

I have only ever been able to make it good once, and that was the first time I made it, it took me about an hour, maybe longer...

I can't even give up on it, as much as I would like too, as I can't buy the pre made stuff due to allergies

Ooh hello Pavlovs-Dog where have you been hiding?!
Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

    Hello fellow frugallers:j
Have not yet had a chance to read back through the thread yet but will aim to do so this week.
Amazingly here at GBT I have finished a frugal project- one very rustic janet and john blanket made nearly all from wool gleaned from charity shops, freecycle and half finished balls from my Mum:D Psychocat felt the need to "help":rotfl::rotfl: NB this is going to be for the small person's bed not a throw for the sofa!

    Argh!
Why does my cheese sauce never work!?
It always comes out wrong; too runny, lumpy, etc etc... well tonights was thick, too thick, so put more milk in, til it was a good flowing consistency, added the tuna and pasta, mixed it all put in oven topped with more cheese.... looks good.. tastes ok, but it was a bit doughy at the bottom... still edible. Well it needs to be, as I made enough for tomorrows lunch and enough to freeze til another day.

Might be worth trying the microwave? It usually works for me - I always mix the cornflour in a big pyrex jug or big bowl with a little cold milk till it "slakes" ie feels smooth to stir. Then top up with the rest of the cold milk. Add a knob of butter and pepper to taste then nuke it to just below boiling point. Bring it out, stir, nuke for a minute, stir and nuke for another minute.... keep repeating until thick and smooth and cornflour cooked. Then add grated cheese, nuke til melted and serve. The ownly warning is to make sure your bowl is big enough so it doesnt bubble over....

    Good luck:T

    This is Fab Aril!

I've just been indulging myself on attic24 blog, I'm thinking of making her neat ripple blanket, but not using the expensive wool like she has (Rowan and debbie bliss for her new blanket).
I'm thinking of starting small, maybe pram size or even smaller - car seat size, as i now have not just one baby to make for, but my cousin is expecting TWINS! So that's my sister due in June and cousin in July ... exciting times ahead. As i don't know what sex any of the babies are, I'm stuck on what colour combinations to do.
I really should get one started and see how long it will take me.
