Evening everyone :hello:
The weather has been horrible today - really misty, wet and windy! So, not ventured too far. Going to have some salmon and veg for tea in a bit, then have a lazy evening in. It's not been a NSD today, as I did need to get some petrol. It's gone up to 135.9 here again, sigh.
Have a good eveningBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I have been to an amazing frugal funeral today! It was my friends step-dad who was like a dad to me when we were growing up. He was totally make do and mend, fix and not throw anything away, drove round in clapped out cars and was a highly educated and very interesting and inspiring man.
He and my friends mum have 8 children between them. They all got together and made his coffin and decorated it with pictures of him and we could all write massges on it during the service, they picked him up in someone's van, dug the grave themselves and one son who is a chef did most of the food and we all bought something as well. The service was amazing, his 4 children conducted most of it and it was very apt and even amusing at times. I felt so humbled and priviledged to be there and also annoyed with myself that I hadn't visited much lately. I will make that up to his wife from now on.Mum to 2 DSs, dog mum, wife full-time worker.

That just brought a tear to my eye, how lovely and what a lovely family. You have made me think about how many people I need to make more of an effort with

Went to get some Whiskas and ....... guess what ...... a row of empty shelves with "out of stock" against all the varieties.
Not impressed & have now completed a "feedback" form and I won't be going back unless I happen to be in that particular town anyway.
DITTO! I cant understand why whoever is in charge of stock control couldn't work out that this would sell out very quickly!rising_from_the_ashes wrote: »Ohhhhh I wish .... mine wouldn't lower themselves to eat anything that came out a tin!:(Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Hello all - hope everyone's all right.
Eventually did my Feb accounts yesterday, and seem to be doing OK, but can't yet be really accurate about anything. Have to wait until I get my first payment at the new pension rate (changed as I'm now a widow), and I get it 3-monthly in arrears. Last payment was a few days after DH died.
I was getting all his pension in my account (had power of attorney as he had dementia) but on the other hand am not now paying out big bucks for nursing home care, so don't quite know where I am yet. (Yes, DWP have told me, but my personal system depends on me checking bank balances!)
Anyway, thanks to MSE, I'm able to carry on being frugal whatever my income is or isn't! (No wonder the country's in recession with us lot as part of the equation!)Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -

Sounds like a very good funeral! I get so angry at the rip off prices charged for funerals. They catch people at their very lowest and take advantage. My dad said he wanted a green/cardboard coffin. When the time came the undertaker persuaded mum that dad should have 'something befitting his status' (in other 'more expensive')!!0 -
Morning all - hope evrybody has a good frugal day, I have had 3 x nsd in a row. Tomorrow will make it 4 - shows what you can do if you put tour mind to it lol
Weather cold & miserable - was just beginning to get used to the better weather and think that spring was about to happen early. Great British weather:(

There is some good news.
i forgot that at the moment i am paying my rent and council tax. When the transfer happens I will apparantly be eligeable for Council tax and Housing benefit. So Yipee, it means that I will have just under £30 a week less then I am currently on. Still a bit difficult but certainly not so frantic.
Boy was I worried.
Still need to tone down the spending as I am still verging on going out of control on the income as it is now.
Thank goodness for MSE and all the support.
That certainly sounds better than you first thought - fingers crossed for you :T0
