  • I don't want to ask too many questions, because I don't want to guess anything - and I love a surprise. :j But I did ask if I needed to dress up, and was told that jeans, flat shoes (thank you!) and a jacket would be absolutely fine, and that's what everyone's wearing, that it's indoors, not male strippers and everyone will be sitting down. ;)

I feel like Cinderella off to the ball!

Just over two years ago I was in a car accident. Long story short I have had a letter today offering £4200. I am accepting against solicitors wishes as I can not deal with any fighting, arguing etc as they have already called me a liar and said they will take me to court. This really annoyed me as I never exaggerated any injuries.

This means I can pay off our Credit card bill and give each of the kids £50. DD wants some towards a stair carpet, DS wants some new footie bits DSSs need some other bits and bobs etc.

We will have left £1000 which is :j:j:j:j but I don't know what to do with it. Do I pay it off the mortgage, have an emergency fund (I do have some shares I can cash in for an emergency fund though)

If you were debt free what would you do with a thousand pound ??

DH has said no more cats :o

    First I would get a cat :)..................

  • I have had the most exciting news! :) DD has organised for 7 friends to go out with me in a stretch limo next month, to "an event" (don't know what ;)) as an early celebration of my 65th birthday! :j:j:j

Someone's brother-in-law's brother-in-law is providing the limo at "mates rates", which DH is paying for, the family are paying for my cost at "the event", my mates are paying for themselves, and all I know is we will be seated. ;)

I am sooooooooooooooooo excited! I've never been in a stretch limo, and DD was asking me if I wanted to do anything, like go in a hot air balloon, abseil , do a bungee jump :eek:, perleeeeeeeeze, noooo!!

I will keep you posted. :T :T Must practise my Royal Wave!

That sound good Sandra & exciting do keep us upto date with what it is just a thought is there a show in London ( west end) that you have mentioned you would like to see ?

    Good morning!!

Thanks SF, it is good to know that I am in good company and that there are people who understand this (not sure I do most of the time!). Sorry you have been having a rough time too. I like swimming but there are no facilities near me and so I walk places instead which does help. I went for coffee yesterday with a colleague I met recently, it was a great tonic as it turns out we have a lot in common and we laughed a lot which helped me no end :)

Feeling much better today, I have already been more productive than I have for ages by doing some housework that I just couldn't be bothered with. I am about to crack on with my coursework and keep my fingers crossed that I can stay on top for a bit as it were.

I could also do with keeping myself away from the chocolate in the cupboard as my attempts to cheer mysef up have done nothing for my waistline!

I hope everyone has a lovely day,

I know what you mean about the goodies cupboad I need to keep away as I need to lose some weight I am pleased your feeling a bit better

  • Had a much better day today - thank goodness. The house was starting to look like a bombsite! Got some work done too which is also good, did some correspondance that I ahve been avoiding like the plague and not eaten too much - result :T:T. Lets hope I can stay like this for a few days!!

We are having a weekend in (again) to try and manage our dire financial circumstances, but I am going to make some twinks biscuits as I have heard so much about them. If they are any good I'll put them in the v. cafe on Monday!!

Would love to do ebay...I'm not sure I have time this weekend though...arrrghhhh!!

    Have a great weekend everyone.

Wow .....this sounds great. Whilst I do like getting dressed up every now and again I am most comfortable in my jeans and that is the truth so I would be very happy.:) I would also be pleased it is no strippers too...all a bit much for me:o!!!

  • Whoo hoo chickens! :j:j:j That's wonderful news to know that you can be debt free and have £1000 over.:D What would I do if I suddenly was given £1000?

I think I'd put £750 away, and then buy a mixture of wants and needs with the other £250, but it's your money honey, so you do whatever you want.:)

:rotfl::rotfl: so its you that sits on my shoulder and tells me to do bad things is it? You little devil you

what colour do you think I should get :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks for all your advice about the money.

To be honest giving £50 each to the kids is my treat yourself money as it makes me happy. I have just treated myself to £100 pair of boots and DH bought me a remoska before crimbo so had our treats.

Top of the charts is calculating everything we spend in a year. Insurance, mot, tax, birthdays and xmas etc. Anything that we pay in one go so not direct debits. Instead of struggling to cut back that month I want to divide what we spend into months and put it away, that way all year is covered and we shouldn't have to panic at Christmas. The thousand pound will go into an account and be topped up each month and withdrawn when the bill comes in or event happens. Whatever we save at the end of the year, say after xmas we have £1100 in the account we will take the 100 and pay that off the mortgage. Does this make sense :rotfl::rotfl:

  • Thanks Ruby and Cherryjack for the 'congrats' It's very exciting and I've just bought some wool today in blue to make a teddy. Got plenty of time he's not due till June :) Oh Ruby your Marmalade is one very naughty cat :)

...Well done on your claim. At least it's over now and you can enjoy the money. I can see lots of extra catnip being bought :D

Sandra it looks like you are in for a very exciting day! :j

Going to the pictures in half an hour watching the new Daniel Ratcliffe film Woman in Black. Went to see it at the theatre, donkeys years ago, we even took two of our children at the time who were about 10 and 11 and I don't remember it being particularly scary. Ooh I might be eating my words later!

PIC - congrats on your pennies :D

I got a tax rebate this month (entirely unexpected!) of £504. I used some of it to repay the cost of my cinema pass which I had put on my credit card, which saved me taking it from my savings. I still have almost £400 left, but I have just put it to one side in case it's a mistake by work or HMRC.

Sandra - your birthday treat sounds very exciting!
