2012 Frugal Living Challenge (Part 1)

I have stocked up on wine from M and S ready for my 50th birthday in April - 25 per cent of two cases, ten pounds off one of the cases so I have saved about £31 so very pleased and got cash back through quidco too. Very pleased.
Going to make my version of Twinks too (be careful if you google!) but I use half the sugar usually billingtons light muscovado and Doves whole meal flour.
Another NSD for me - had one yesterday too and a cobble for dinner and just finished watching Call the Midwife on the Iplayer. Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

SS does that mean you are an Aries? If you are I won't be surprised, you sound like you might be. Your trip out in a Limo sounds fantastic, enjoy every minute of it, your family certainly seem to be intent on giving you a good time. When you have been please let us all know about it wont you, we will all be holding our breaths.
I went to the market yesterday to collect my oranges for the weeks cooking and was told that it will probably be the last week for them, I must say this year the season have been longer than usual. The guy at the stall said will you take them all if I will give you a good price and he didso I did. That means I have to work faster than usual so they dont go mouldy.
I've worked hard today and cleared up early, that gave me time to take all yesterdays full jars upstairs to pack and get organised to cook todays preserves.
I also spent a small amount of time in the garden and cut down my raspberries and a few other jobs, plus visited my lovely neighbour for coffee. I meant to catch up with my ironing but somehow forgot about it never mind another day tomorrow.
Hope every one is feeling a bit brighter today a bit of sunshine certainly helps me. Hugs to all who need it or would just like one I've plenty to go around.Keep to £400 a month on C/C.

Repeat a few more times trying as you go to scrape a bit of the burn off. Leave to soak overnight and most of the burn will brush of in the morning, I used my pot scourer for the last bits and the pan looks like new now and have already used it today. Phew.
I have been trying to work out who had the Caesarian on 16th Jan, I couldn't see clearly who it was because of quotes etc but am sure you will recognise yourself. If you feel as ill as it seemed don't hesitate about going to see your GP you might just need some antibiotics. I hope you feel better soon and am sorry about no visit from your mum yet, can I be your surrogate Mum please I would love to come and marvel over your new baby? Childbirth is so wonderful and how clever you are to produce this new little human being from your body. Many many congratulations.
Going to bed soon I have had a few nights of not sleeping well and think this is why I still dont feel 100%.
Welcome to all you newcomers, stay with it you will win eventually and as somebody else said the act of writing down where your money went is a a real eye opener. Remember every little helps. X
Thank you for the sauce pan tip! :-) my OH always burns mine.. so will be using this tip in the future.. you dont happen to know what to do for a burnt iron? some burn mark came off on a baby grow earlier.. hope that will remove but not sure how to get off the iron or clothing??

Going to the pictures in half an hour watching the new Daniel Ratcliffe film Woman in Black. Went to see it at the theatre, donkeys years ago, we even took two of our children at the time who were about 10 and 11 and I don't remember it being particularly scary. Ooh I might be eating my words later!
Warm hugs x

Just popping in to say hello :hello:before I get stuck in to some much needed ebay listing. Got to persevere but omg it gets so boring but we have family/friends coming to visit later so its a good nsd day in store for me and will get as much done as I can before I lose the will to live lol
Well done to all who are tackling their finances head on - don't you feel so much better?
And glad to hear that some of you who have been struggling are feeling a bit better - for those who are suffering with the 'black dog' a little tip that helped me is to try to make a list (the list maker in me again) of things you want to do/acheive and try to do one or two every day. hth x0 -

I thought it was excellent Cherryjack. DD spent most of it under the hood of her coat and she's almost 22! Had me jumping out of my skin a few times, along with everyone else in the cinema
Well done on the multi quotes
I've had a google regarding the burn marks but there's that many different opinions on it. Here's one of them anyway from google but I'm sure someone on here will have a tried and tested way...
****If the scorch marks are on the iron try this: place several spoonsful of salt on a soft cloth. Lay it on the ironing board. Turn the iron on to the cotton setting (no steam!) and iron over the salt until the scorch marks disappear. When the iron cools, wipe the sole plate with a damp cloth. If you have scorch marks on an item of clothing, try soaking the stain with lemon juice or hydrogen peroxide and placing the garment in the sun. Obviously, the garment should be washable and colorfast if you do this****
Thriftysister I'm also doing a bit on ebay today. Relisting and might add a few more items even though I'd rather watch paint dry!
Going to write a list of what I want to try to get done this weekend to motivate me.
Have a great Saturday everyone.

I'm going to try and list a few things on ebay too today - but like you dread the thought of it - it's SO time consuming.
Good news today though, Received, by recorded delivery, our £100 worth of High Street vouchers for joing N-Power - thanks to MSE! Not only were they the cheapest for us (or we wouldn't have been tempted, but we got £30 cashback too - brilliant deal. trouble is everyones got their own idea of what they want to spend it on - could all have £20 each I suppose, but I want to use to it for things we HAVE to buy anyway ... what do you all reckon?0 -
