I have both my landline and my mobile signed up with TPS (Telephone Preference Service) and hardly ever get any.
..... at which I butted in to inform her she shouldn't even been calling me as I'm registered with TPS.... and that got a very hasty 'sorry' and hang up
Thanks for the quick response CW18. So have I understood correctly, if i have to put in a telephone number in the price comparison sites (or say an insurance co's own site), if I'm signed up to TPS they shouldn't call me? They won't turn round and say, 'ah, but by enquiring about a quote you've given permission to be called'.
I know I'm being dim about this - I really haven't used comparison sites before.

I've not had calls as a result of quotes - but I couldn't say whether that's down to company policies or being registered with TPS (or a combination of the 2). If they do call, just tell them you "got sorted somewhere else thankyou very much" and hang up - that would be the way I'd handle it:)
EDIT : British G@s used to call trying to sell me cover for my electrics and kitchen appliances, and I complained to a supervisor as I classed that as in breach of TPS. They started by telling me they could call me as I have CH cover with them, and they saw this as an extension to an existing contact - and they ARE allowed to call with reference to current business you have with them. But the calls stopped after my second complaint, during which I threatened to take it up with TPS and see what they had to say about itCheryl0 -
Thanks CW18 - I've nothing to lose by registering with TPS and I'll see how it goes once I've finally got my nerve up to go on the comparison sites.
Thanks for your help - v much appreciated!

I need to update my sig. with 2012 figures - my "available sum" is, I'm sure, going to be less this year, but am in limbo between bank accounts (still in the process of changing) so don't have accurate info about what I actually have. Because of DH's death my incomings may go down a bit - don't know, waiting to hear. So, I feel muddled - don't like it!
Never mind - while I'm waiting for more info I'm just carrying on with the frugal lifestyle...... I'm quite happy with that side of it!Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -
Hiya, when doing comparison sites I always give the wrong phone number! I went through Quidco to get my car insurance from Sainsburys, I get double points for two years, £50 back from Quidco and about £200 cheaper than Egg. I'm never loyal and change every yearKEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:0

Morning all frugallers
Havent managed to get on here much lately thought when I was made redundant would have loads of time but not working out like that at the moment partly due to DD3s operation on her nose been keeping her happy and fed as she has been so down since having that last week and her bf of a year splitting with her just before back at hospital today to have stitches out and plasters off more car parking to fork out.
Signed on this week that was very interesting as I walked in someone was thrown out literally past me didnt realise they had security on doors now! hopefully they will help me find something looked online still no job yet
Jan was ok hope Feb even better spent more on food last week than most of other weeks put together probably as was using up leftovers from xmas

Hello all
Gosh isn't it cold!!! Been lighting the fire rather than putting heating on but log pile is going down quick!
Went to Mr A today and bought a few bits and trago mills(anyone in Devon and Cornwall you'll know what I'm on about). It used to be a huge great discount store but they have revamped it and you need to watch the prices on certain things.
DH has been on a course all week and it's surprising how much less food has been consumed!!! Mainly because me and the boys are happy to have lighter meals and eat the same thing 2 days running!
Lovely day tomorrow, going for a run with a friend first thing. Then taking another friend out to lunch (not frugal I know, but it's her birthday pressie) then we're going to do a cupcake decorating course which was my xmas pressie from DH. Then pub with more friends in the evening, but won't drink so that will be cheap!
Doing well on my fitness and diet regime, lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks and feeling a lot more alive and happy actually.
Big warm hugs to those who need them xxxMum to 2 DSs, dog mum, wife full-time worker.

Evening all - thank goodness it's Friday!
SF (((hugs))) there's an awful lot on your plate atm...... hopefully once the move is out the way that will be one less thing to worry about. I'm an old hand at moving (think it's around 32 times now:o) so have my packing/labelling techniques down to a "T". Happy but skint good luck with your move too!
Greying Pilgrim & CW18 I too have TPS but I've been having a few problems lately. This is apparently down to many companies now using automatic systems which dial random numbers.... I always make sure I get the company name before saying I've got TPS and then they hastily hang up - but it means I can still report them to the TPS
Well, have finally found some tyres - I could get a budget make for around £90 but I'd rather pay a bit more and get a decent make (better handling/grip which is worth it IMHO and they do usually last a bit longer too). So, have managed to get both for £112 fitted with a slight discount by ordering them online - even tho' the centre has them in stock (seems odd to me, but there you go).
Will be getting them done tomorrow as a bit worried that the weather's going to turn.
So ..... that will be over £400 _pale_ I'll have spent on the car in the past week:eek: - still hopefully that should be everything (apart from the odd small spend such as a wiper or bulb) until next January. Just could've done with the tyres lasting another couple of months until I'd had enough money set aside..... there will have to be some juggling of the money pots and I think some "IOU" notes put in place:oGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Big warm hugs to those who need them xxxWell done on the weight loss natnat. Really pleased you are feeling more chirpier
Rising it is worth paying a bit more for tyres and will cost less in the long run as hopefully they won't need changing as quickly.
Still using the coupon thread on page 1 of here and have saved some pennies, especially using the vitalite coupon as we use a lot of it. It's suitable for vegans and I use it in baking too and every penny adds up
Warm hugs to everyone. We may need them this weekend if the weather is correct!

I must have another try at this - I really don't understand it at all (have tried a couple of times):o.
I'm fine with the printable coupons but a lot seem to ask you to register / sign up / like on FB etc (is that me?) and I really don't want loads of companies having my address details in particular for letting me have a 30p off coupon.
Is it me that's "odd" in this respect?Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
