  • What on earth do you think eBay will do with it.

As far as I was aware, ebay do not like sellers who cancel transactions whilst still getting the buyer to pay. Hence letting them deal with it.

I imagine they would suspend the seller's account - as ebay will not be getting their fees and this they do not like.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

    hi,

just wondering peoples thoughts on this

i won a item a few nights ago which was suppost to be in "perfect condition" as stated in the listing
i spoke to the seller on the phone and asked several times what condtion it was in, they replied mint as the auction says
they asked about a mutual cancellation to avoid fees which i was ok with as it made it a bit cheaper for me, this raised a few alarms in my head but i could see why they would want to do it

so i drove down to collect it, when i inspected it there were significant scratches on it on one part of it, i expect wear and tear but not scratches (deep down to the metal)
after looking it over i deceided not to buy it
they had another buyer lined up so they agreed to it
i like my things to be in good condition and i knew if i bought it i would always be looking for one in better condition

so they have asked to a mutual cancelation which i will agree to
but what bugs me is the two hours driving to see it, that was a total waste of my time

what would you do? mutual cancelation but with bad or netural feedback?
or just cancel and forget about it?

what do people think? am i being unreasonable?

    (sorry about the spelling mistakes)

The seller described it as "mint" but you expected wear and tear on it? :rotfl:That just shows how much trust people have in sellers' decriptions!

The fact that they requested a cancellation to avoid fees would make me suspicious of their decription as well. I wouldn't accept the cancellation request. They messed you around - why should you help them?

I fear I mis be misreading this thread. OP has found a dodgy seller who tries to avoid paying fees by doing a false 'mutual' to say transaction cancelled yet is surpised seller also lies about condition of item?

Dodgy seller so just decline the mutual and leave appropriate feedback- what else is there to do? The sooner sellers like this are gone the better it will be for the rest of us.

Tell them you will only agree to the cancellation if they cover your petrol costs for the wasted journey :)

I have read and re-read this thread, yes English is not my first language, but as far as I see it.....the buyer did not pay. So despite anything else (descriptions are a matter of opinion) then the seller has not completed the sale.

If I have misunderstood this, can someone show me where?

Edit, apologies, I have now read the first bit correctly. My mistake. However, this was a verbal conversation and the buyer hasn't paid....so in theory the sale has not been completed so I fear Ebay will do nothing anyway.
  • slight update, still have not agreed to the mutual cancelation
i had the seller on the phone asking why, i said i was undecided if i was going to leave feedback first and they will have to wait till i make up my mind (well only for a week untill it self cancels)
anyway he asked why i said i was annoyed at him wasting my time going to collect an item that was suppost to be in "perfect condition", he then said i never said it was in excellent conditon because it has some marks!

perfect = well perfect you dont get better condition than that

    hope that makes sense?
  • i find it vastly unreasonable if you leave negative feedback on an order like this when you haven't even paid for it!!

You haven't even gone through with the sale. You chose to drive down there even after this seller sounding dodgy from the outset.

Sounds to me like you are just annoyed/bitter that you went down there and you dont want it. Its your word against his that he said on the phone it was 'mint'

i wanted to pay for it, i went down with the intention of buying it, its in the listing as perfect condition and was verified on the phone before setting off, i even expected fair wear and tear, but i will not buy somthing covered in scratches when it was not advertised
yes i am annoyed i spent my time and money to get it, why should i go through with the sale with somthing that was clearly not as advertised
if you had purchsed a car with say a perfect paint job and went to collect i am sure you would be annoyed if you found it covered in scratches

Don't be silly! The listing described it as in 'perfect condition'. There are plenty of people who misdescribe their items. I would be just as p*ssed off if I had got there and it was obviously no where near as described. You're way off the mark here.

Who said you should go through with the sale? Not me. What I am saying is you havent gone through with the sale but chose (we're all adults here and make our own decisions) to go down to see this cowboy. Did you not thing for a second that there was the slightes possibility this may not be as described?

!!!!ed off, yes but this guy chose to go down there. A lot of people in this world need to get some perspective and use some common sense.
