  • I can recommend Lands' End as completely reliable and you can return any item whenever for whatever reason, they don't mind and will refund, even months later. A happy customer not employee! I always buy from their clearance when there's a sale on and post-free specials (usually around bank holidays).

  • Hi

I have been very pleased with my recent purchases from Lands End and can recommend them for quality. I bought several of the Supima fine knit cotton tops and cardigans in the sale and the quality is superb and being cotton they wash very well. I can't tell you how many wool cardigans I have ruined over the years through washing (even when washing on a gentle woollen cycle!) so now I'm going to stick with these Supima ones.

The Starfish trousers are also very good quality and very comfortable with an elasticated waist and the material seems to be hardwearing. I did buy these at full price, but I tend to wait for their sales to buy anything else.

Looks like Lands End is getting the thumbs up, I'll pop to their site and have a good look round. I can't do fully elasticated trousers unfortunately, my waist is too small for my hips (sounds better than my hips are too big for my waist ;) ) so unless they have a drawstring too then the waist is always baggy if I buy for my hip size.

I've just received an order for a couple of things from Woolovers. Very pleased with the camisoles but the jumper and cardigan are a bit on the big side so will have to return and try a size down.

Woolovers do say in their catalogue that anything with wool, silk and cashmere content should be washed with a Silk & Wool or other wool specialist powder/liquid as normal bio powders contain enzymes which will degrade garments made from animal based fibres. Even non-bio detergents will do this but to a lesser degree because they contain bleaching agents.

Lands End have a 25% off offer right now, until midnight tonight (code displayed on their home page)

I use Ecover to wash clothes, mainly because of allergies, but it was the only non-bio washing product that did not contain bleaching agents. I have not checked for ages, because I don't want to change, I but in bulk during offers, but I could only find bio colour-friendly, or non-bio but bleaching.
Ecover does not fade colours, the difference was noticeable when I switched, highly recommended. I use it for wool as well, and it's fine (I have wool cycle in the w/m)
  • Lands End - endless on-line discounted offers from them will pop into your in-box. Generally nice quality and fairly 'ageless'. Trousers can often be finished to your preferred length. Good customer service too.
The only thing you should be paying interest on is a mortgage.

Otherwise Mr Banker - No, I think you'll find interest is something you pay to me....

I've ordered some items from Woolovers and have been very happy with price, quality and customer service.

Not mentioned here but I got a couple of things in BHS sale when they had their "free delivery on £10 spend" offer recently, and some really nice nightdresses from Ample Bosom.

I shall wait for Lands End sale prices or discount code and will also have another look at Cotton Traders.

I think you missed the LandsEnd winter sale - although there may be a few items left at sale prices. It's often worth giving them a ring to see.

Because of weight loss I've just had to replace a lot of clothes. M&S Classic are good, and they too have a sale on. I love their classic twin-sets, have recently bought 3 new ones. M&S online, very quick and efficient, good to deal with.

I purchased recently from the companies mentioned above:
M&S (although I've never seen a catalogue, but maybe one exists?)
their sizing is all over the place, I bought a number of items for my family that we had bought in the past, and the different sizes were all larger than what we already had, one size bigger (we like the idea of 'downsizing' ;)... but what a waste of time having to return everything).
Generally not impressed with M&S, quality is touch and go, sometimes really good, others just OK.

Woolover: same problem, first time I followed their sizing guidelines and the jumper was too big. Returned then bought two more jumpers, same style, different colours and one had much wider shoulders, so doesn't look as good as the other. But their jumpers are lovely and good price, just be prepared to try and return.
They have a sale now, not huge reductions but still a saving if you are planning to buy from them. They also have a shop in W.Sussex.

Lands End: very good generally, very pleased with them. Only that I bought a jacket that was supposed to be extremely warm, but is not as warm as another one I have, but still great value for money. Their cotton t-shirts and jersey trousers are incredibly good quality and value for money (if bought in the sales+discount code), they will last forever.
Same with their jackets, particularly good value if you wear a plus size.

I would say that with catalogue/online buying you need to see it as ordering stuff to try on and possibly return (free returns are a must for me), which in my family they struggle to do, as they get very disappointed if something doesn't fit, and sometimes they are too lazy to return it.... :p
