Most department stores - John Lewis; Debenhams; House of Fraser - have online ordering and I'm sure you'd be able to find stuff there - I think some of them have sales on at the moment. You're able to send stuff back if you don't like it.

HI there TM, you might like to check out Pure Cashmere, not cheap, but lovely and cosy! If you join their email list you get various offers. Also worth waiting for the sale unless you want something in particular for a special occasion. Have just bought grey "leopard" skirt and red sweater and cardigan for over the Christmas hols. Nice people to deal with if you have any problems too. Had to exchange the skirt as the one I ordered was too big  and the exchange came really fast. Currently got a 25% off offer via email, and also on catalogue (mine arrived a couple of days ago). I really like cashmere for gardening as it's so warm - might be good for you walking the dog? And although ideally you should hand wash it I just put it through the machine on the wool setting with wool detergent, best to put in one of those delicates net bags too. Sizing is on the generous rather than the mean side, once you've had some stuff from them it's easier to have a better idea of the sizing. But ain't that always the way with mail order or internet shopping? ;) Oh, BTW not everything they do is all cashmere, some is a mix, and they do other stuff too.

I really like Sahara too, though have to say some of the prices seem really over the top. But I've got a jacket I bought around 2 years ago from them, I've worn it practically every day since, looking a little the worse for wear now, but then I do garden in it, so it's been "brambled" rather a lot! ;) Also bought the outfit for DD1's wedding from them too, which was much admired by everyone. Another one that it's worth waiting for the sales too unless needed for special occasion.

Have no connection with either of these companies, other than as a satisfied customer.

Hope you are doing OK! Best wishes from Liverpool, Maggie.

PS bit off topic - how are the geranium cuttings doing now?

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, I've added them all to Favourites and will spend some time going through them over the next few days.

Maggie - I wish I was a dress person, or at least had somewhere to go to wear one, the first link I looked at of yours I really liked a dress on the main page. I seem to spend my life in jeans or trousers, no call for dressing up here! Most of the cuttings are still green and healthy looking, just a few are looking sorry for themselves but have new little leaves on so haven't died on me. I'll keep my eye on them. The parent plants of the most precious ones are still flowering in the garden so when my neighbour comes back from her holiday I'll see if she's got any advice for me. Hugs to you and yours :) .

Urm, the pics underneath the main pic seem to cycle through different stuff, so not sure which dress you mean. Is it the one shown in red with the sort of twisted knot under bust? I'd love to be able to wear dresses too, but I'm very short waisted so mostly can't manage anything shaped as waist comes in wrong place! :o

I mostly live in long skirts, as jeans are too cold at this time of year! :rotfl: Plus cashmere mix tights to keep my tootsies nice and cosy. And sheepskin knee boots as well as I have really cold feet! :rotfl: But I'm inland, and if was walking on a beach in the wind regularly I'd prob have to re-think...

But the cashmere tights might work under jeans - other than bulk, though not very bulky actually. They really are cosy, ran out of clean ones last week and had to wear ordinary thick tights and ended up with freezing feet. Unfortunately the cashmere tights cost a ridiculous amount, but as usual it's a matter of waiting for sales. If you're interested in at least looking at them, try Figleaves. Or search for best buys on Falke Tights - these are what I've been wearing. Usual thing - nothing to do with these companies, just satisfied customer.

Glad to hear the geranium cuttings are still going OK. Don't overwater them over the winter.

    Hugs from Liverpool!

Maggie - Yes, that was the dress. Will have to find something nice and cosy for dog walking, especially if we have a winter as bad as last year. It was cold enough for hat, scarf and gloves today, brrrrrrrr!

Seven-day-weekend - No, not in Llandudno, that was one of our places to see some real shops!!!!!!!!! I'm on the north-west coast, little seaside town about 1.5 hours' drive south of there.
  • Try the trousers from Lands' End. They have different fittings, some on the waist, some below it.

Because I'm so short I can wear their 'crops' as trousers and, while jeans may be too cold, I can assure you that Lands' End jersey trousers are not. I live in mine, they're so comfortable and most definitely not cold.

    Lands' End are good. www.landsend.co.uk

They currently have a 25% off (code given on home page, or found on this forum) in addition to good sales.
  • (Female tenor, by the way! 52, also rural; in a notable M&S desert! Check out their online shopping).

Try googling these. All have catalogues you can request a copy of:

Witt International - wide range mostly classic; a few trendy twists. Fairly cheap. Reasonable quality.

Cotton Traders - casual stuff. Good value.

    Land's End - mostly casual.

Ambrose Wilson - wide range from trendy to fuddy-duddy.

La Redoute - majority trandy and smaller sizes. But also have more classic sections/collections, incl. larger sizes.

    For shoes:

Hotters. Expensive but EXCELLENT value - last for years and years! Comfy. I very seldom buy from anywhere else.

    HTH

Only use la redoute if you want to wait an absolute age for despatch then another age for delivery(if they can find your home) and expect them to treat your cash in your account as their own money.. Shoddy outfit. Who have stolen money from me.

I found this for wool jumpers and cardi, reasonable price, quality looks good. The cardi I got was nice and soft.
I would say though that if you have short arms or narrow shoulders their jumpers may not fit.

(no sales on right now, may be worth waiting until they do)
