Out of curiosity, what's the source of this information?

whilst in theory it's quite feasible and quite likely as in all industries the big just keep getting bigger ....
..... cpw are public company and there hasn't been any stock exchange announcements which is how it would be done ?0 -
What happens about the OSPS cashback schemes that are still on-going?
Has anyone had a cheque from them recently?0 -

No, but I sent my bill off for my cash back and hopefully I will be getting the cheque soon. I wouldn't worry about it anyway as they will still have to hounour our it.0 -

Hi Smartasss,
What follows is merely hypothetical as we haven't yet been shown the proof for the validity of the OP's statement. While it is perfectly plausible, I remain sceptical about this information until I have visible proof.
Anyway, in answer to your question...
Usually, if a company is bought over in its entirety the buying company takes on the "debt" as well as the assets so the responsibility to repay the cashbacks as promised would subsequently rest with the purchaser. Basically, if a company is considered to be worth £1M and it has £500K of debts, the purchaser would simply pay £500M for the company and take on its debt.
However, if a company is broken up and sold piecemeal (As is often the case in a company liquidation) it's a little more hit and miss - the Allders fiasco is a particular case in point. In this instance there is a BIG question mark over the existing employee pension scheme which has a large deficit to make up - AFAIUI none of the purchasing companies seem to be willing to take on the responsibility for plugging this pensions black hole and the liquidator is on a bit of a sticky wicket because they simply have to sell the assets as soon as practicably possible. Infact, the sad fact is that, as they are supposed to work for the benefit of the owners/shareholders of the company, the pensions scheme is actually of no concern to them.
Anyway...as the OP hasn't yet supplied details of his/her source we cannot say what the deal is with existing cashbacks with any certainty. However, if the worst came to the worst and CPW subsequently refused to honour outstanding cashbacks, the media outcry could be so huge as to cripple their reputation going forward. Somehow I don't think that they would want to take that risk.

Is this proof enough for you:
Carphone Warehouse buys OneStop0 -
Good news for those who took risk (me included) :j . For those who were frightened by the Forward Cellular case now it is a good time to grab good deals if OSPS still have them.
P.P.S. They still have a couple of free headsets with free line rental for 12 months (12 months contract):
Motorola V545 on Orange on OVP Voda Anytime 200
Nokia 2650 on Orange on OVP Voda Anytime 200 or OVP Relax 200/100
***Please place any referrals on the Referral Board, thank you Board Guide***0 -
Theyve now dropped the 12 months free line rental deal on the V545, still going on the 2650. Reckon it will be unlikely for them to start new 12 months free line rental deals with them now being under the CPWH umbrella as that would make them cheaper than e2save.
Reckon they must be a better bet than a week or so ago in terms of honouring cashback.0
