Hi,
I am the Head of a school and last year we were short of money to take them to a panto so did something we called our 'polar express'. We had a song on a powerpoint we showed in assembly which was interupted mid flow by father xmas (local teacher who we had filmed) who welcomed the children to a special treat-told them we had our very own reindeers who would guide them around the school. He introduced the one at a time and a teacher came in dressed in brown leggings with reindeer headband and t-shirt with their name on ( Dasher etc).
We split the children acorss school (200+) into 'trains' and they spent the day visiting a carousel of activities:- Mrs Chrstmas' kitchen where they decorated gingerbread with Mrs C. (local Greggs donated 200 gingerbread)
- Elves workshop-card making with elves
- xmas past traditional carol singing, hot chocolate etc
- a visit to santa-the infant hall was set up like a grotto
- Crimbo Bingo-christmas themed bingo
- Christmas story land-staff member in role telling festive tales
Hope this helps other schools with ideas to make Christmas special for their pupils. It was a very emotional experience that the children still talk about. Not sure how we can top it this year!0 -
Rachsecret that sounds like a wonderful thing to do, I bet the kids all loved it much more than a panto.0

If you look at online book clubs - eg Red House then you can often find multipacks of books - eg Julia Donaldson 10 books for £10, Horrid Henry, fairy books etc. Often with free delivery.
And you can write the name of the child on each book so if they lose it its easily at party its returned to them.0 -
