Hardly an extraordinary deal anyway, given that anyone can have free evening calls if they sign up to a 12-month contract, which presumably you had to agree to.purple_butterfly28 wrote: »I'm now very angry!
I got a phone call off BT last week to say that because of the price increase on December 3rd they were giving me free evening calls as well as the free weekend calls i'm already getting.0

Unfortunately mobile internet simply isn't up to scratch if you are anything other than a light user. Usually there are low usage limits, and streaming at a quality that's watchable on a standard-sized screen isn't possible. If anybody's like me then we use our mobiles more than the landline, and although we need our landline for broadband, I can sort that with mobile broadband and ditch BT altogether. Not had the letter yet (only heard this from MSE today!) so will wait and see. More than one way to skin a cat.......0

Firstly, I wouldn't trust BT with any of my money upfront.
Also, for the pre-paid period, you would have to put up with any T&C changes that BT likes; if they change anything severe on monthly line rental you can usually get out penalty free - pay upfront then you forfeit the remainder of the prepaid period.Line Rental Saver is definitely the way to go. It's a good deal when you consider that you can have inclusive Evening and Weekend calls, and Caller Display is included too. Plus BT can't block providers such as 18185. You still have to have paperless billing to qualify for it.
If for some reason anyone doesn't want to pay for 12 months in advance, though, I can't understand why anyone would pay BT's full line rental cost when there are much cheaper providers around. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Appreciate your comment jrawle but we've already done our digging, and based on our very low usage, performance and usage limits offered by mobile broadband will more than suffice. Hence the reason for seriously looking at this option......
 Cheers

Is Paper-free discount £1.25 going for everybody or just newbies??
We're putting up standard monthly line rental by 70p, removing the paper-free discount, and changing some call charges, as well as changing the prices for broadband and some other services. You'll find all the details here. (BT email 7.11.2011)
It is also scrapping the paperless bill discount for new customers, although those who have already signed up will keep their discount. (Guardian Saturday 27 August 2011)

Just had an email from BT about increased costs from 3rd December.
Main parts seem to be an increase in line rental by 70p and the removal of the paperfree discount of £1.25pm.
I haven't seen anyone else mention this but apologies if I have missed it.0

In reply to Jrawle I signed up originally on a 12month contract but at that time it was only free weekend calls included in the cheapest package. Having a mobile aswell I decided not to pay extra for the free evening calls. Just looking at the website now it costs an extra £3 for the evening and weekend calls. Although the BT guy on the phone said it was going up in December by 0.70 (from usual £!3.90 to £14.60) I was still going to get my paperless billing discount so it wouldn't have been that much however I'm now effectively going to be paying £1.95 extra from December which is over half way towards the cost of the evening and weekend calls so only saving £1.05.
Feelin like it's a rip off and queue a phone call tonight and a cost comparison or 2 this afternoon.Engaged 25/12/2013 :T

What ever BT do the other follow the worst is TalkTalk, Every price hike BT do TalkTalk do asap. I am with AOL (i know part of TT) BUT for some reason they can do better deals (been with AOL for 10 years) I got a email saying AOL line rental is going up to £13.20 so u rang and they offered me £2 discount to stay with them till the end of my contract.Jan Wins: .0

Hopefully I'm moving next year, so will look into all options phone line wise as I only have a landline for broadband purposes.
In the meantime if they charge the same for paperless customers, I will be re-instating paper bills. Hopefully hundereds of thousands if not a million + will do the same.0
